The critical period of fertilizing and watering orchids refers to Meiyu, the arrival of the Summer Solstice, to the end of August, so it only takes three months to raise orchids (June July, August). If your orchids can safely and healthily get through this critical period, it will bring you a good mood for a year, and spending these three months also means success in orchid cultivation this year. The focus of this period is to subjectively do a good job in orchid fertilizer and water management. We know that watering and fertilization is a process of subjective judgment made by individuals according to objective phenomena, so how to grasp this process? Here are some experiences I draw lessons from or sum up for your reference.

June to July is the month of the year when the air humidity is relatively high, so watering should pay attention to four points:

1. Do not water the orchid leaves after the rain, and do not spray water to the orchid leaves even if the air humidity is high.

2. This stage is the critical period for orchids to take root and grow leaves, and there must be a degree of dryness and wetness. The so-called degree of dryness and wetness means that the watering must be thoroughly watered, and the humidity of the plant should be less than 30% wet before watering (or even 20% wet). Only in this way can the root system develop and promote the root system to grow downward.

3. Keeping the plant material too wet for a long time, the roots and leaves of orchids are in a state of water saturation. If they are watered or sprayed again, the roots and leaves of orchids cannot be absorbed, which can easily lead to rotten buds, soft rot, stem rot and various diseases. Only by grasping the degree of dryness and wetness can the orchid grow healthily.

4. the time of watering and spraying can be chosen in the evening or early morning, not in the period of high temperature sunshine.

Fertilization only needs to remember two principles: one is to apply thin fertilizer frequently, and the other is to apply root fertilizer or foliar fertilizer as far as possible at night.
