August melon is an evergreen vine, which is widely distributed in China, among which the wild distribution is very wide. The economic value of August melon is very high, which is rich in nutrients. It is not only a nectar plant, the fruit can be eaten fresh, but also can be used for making wine, making fruit pulp and so on. The roots still have certain medicinal value, so how to reproduce when planting August melons? The following editor brings you the breeding methods of August melons, let's have a look!

1. Sowing and reproduction

Every year in September, when the seeds of August melons mature, the seeds are collected and stored for sowing in the spring of the following year. Before planting and sowing, wash the seeds with alkaline water and rinse them with clean water. Then the soil of the seedling bed is mainly sandy soil, the row spacing of the seedling bed is controlled around 20cm to dig a shallow trench, and the ditch depth is kept at about 4 cm. Then sow the seeds into the ditch, apply the right amount of farm fertilizer after sowing, cover the right amount of plant ash, and finally cover about 2 centimeters of fine soil.

After sowing, it will normally sprout and break the soil before and after Ching Ming Festival. After the seedlings are unearthed, shading measures should be taken and attention should be paid to watering to keep the soil moist. Weeding was carried out after finishing the seedlings, which was combined with topdressing. When the seedlings grow to about 4 cm, the seedlings are interspersed to provide sufficient space for the seedlings to grow. Then insert some small bamboo strips between the seedlings to meet the climbing growth habit of August melons. Weeding should be done well during the whole growth period of seedlings, timely watering in drought, excessive water and drainage in rainy season to prevent stagnant water and rotting roots.

2. Striping propagation

The rattan stem sprouting ability of August melon is very strong, so August melon can also use the method of striping propagation. The time of striping propagation should be chosen in summer and autumn. Before striping, we should first select good vines to ensure that the vines are strong and free from diseases and insect pests. After selecting the vine, the branch ring can be cut to the xylem, or the branch can be pressed directly into the soil. After strengthening the management for a period of time, it will take root, and after taking root, it will be separated from the old plant, and then planted separately. The method of striping propagation is very simple, but it is not suitable for mass seedling propagation.

3. Cuttage propagation

In the rainy season or winter hands, we have to choose semi-lignified or fully lignified rattan stems as cuttings. Keep the length at about 20cm and keep about 3 internodes, then remove the nails from the vines and retain the upper leaves of the vines to ensure photosynthesis and improve the rooting rate of the vines. The cutting depth should be kept at about 4 cm, and the row spacing should be controlled well. Then we should pay attention to the time of cutting in the morning and evening, and cuttings should be based on the principle of picking and cutting. Spray water properly after cutting, keep the soil moist, do a good job of shading, under normal management, it can take root about 3 months after cutting.

The above is a brief introduction to the breeding methods of melons in August. That's all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only. I hope it can help you all.
