Citrus is a common fruit in our daily life, which has a wide planting area in our country. When growing oranges, the method of citrus reproduction is very important. In general, grafting is the main method of citrus propagation. So when should oranges be grafted? How should we do it? The following editor brings you the time and method of citrus grafting, let's have a look!

1. Scion preparation

Citrus bud grafting is usually carried out around September to October every year. First of all, the preparation of scion should be done, and the scion should be collected from the mother tree with pure variety, high yield, good quality and strong growth. Generally, autumn grafting is the main method. For orchards specially used for ear harvesting, sufficient base fertilizer and compound fertilizer should be applied in July. Then the long branches, single-apical fruit branches and spring shoot vegetative branches were cut short. Then, according to the growth of the basal branch, two or so new shoots were selected to do a good job in the prevention and control of diseases and insect pests and improve the survival rate and germination rate of grafting.

2. Scion collection

When collecting scions, pay attention to the weather, not on rainy days. It is best to be able to harvest ears in sunny or cloudy days, in the middle and upper part of the crown of the mother tree, in the periphery and in sunny places. Ensure that the branches are fully mature and the length is about 15cm, mainly strong autumn shoots. After the branches have been cut, put them in a cool place. When collecting scions, the leaves should be cut off while picking. Cutting leaves can not be pulled by hand to avoid injury. Then put the scion in the leaf pile and transport it to the nursery for backup.

3. Scion treatment

After transporting the scion to the nursery, leave it in a cool place to cool off for about two hours. Then soak for half an hour with agricultural streptomycin and other agents. After it is removed and washed, it is soaked in tetracycline hydrochloride for two hours, washed and dried, and then grafted. If storage is needed, use clean coarse river sand with a water content of about 8%, tie the branches into small bundles and cover the ground with sand about 5cm. Put the scion up and cover it with coarse sand. Then the upper layer is covered with woven bags or gunny bags and checked every five days or so. The storage time should not exceed half a month. It is best to be grafted as soon as possible.

4. Time and method of grafting

The autumn pick-up time is generally from September to October, which is dominated by the abdominal grafting of bud slices. First of all, the rootstock is about 12 centimeters away from the ground, close to the trunk from top to bottom, cut to the xylem or so, and the incision is kept around 2.5cm. Then remove the bark of the rootstock, open the anvil one line at a time, and then cut the buds. When slicing the bud, first hold the scion, and then cut it down about 20 degrees from the upper part of the bud, keeping the length about two centimeters, with slightly xylem. Then cut at an angle of about 45 degrees at the angle of 2 stroke 3 below the bud, and cross with the first knife to remove the bud piece. Insert the bud directly into the bottom of the cut of the rootstock and wrap it with a grafting film to expose the bud eye.
