Corn is one of the three major crops in China, which is not only an important raw material for grain and feed, but also an important chemical raw material. With the development of breeding technology, cultivation technology, machinery and equipment, wheat and rice have gradually realized the mechanization transformation from planting to harvesting.

The development of corn harvesting machinery in developed countries began at the beginning of the 20th century. At present, corn harvesting has been mechanized. Because of its own particularity, corn has not been able to achieve the whole mechanization operation in our country so far, and the mechanization exploration of corn planting has never stopped.

Corn mechanized harvesting technology refers to the process of using corn harvesting machinery to complete many operations in the field, such as ear picking, peeling, ear loading and threshing, straw crushing or recycling, grain drying and harvesting and so on. Up to now, the sowing of corn (except some mountainous areas) has basically realized the transformation from manual on-demand sowing to mechanized sowing, and the harvest of corn has gradually changed from artificial harvest and manual threshing to manual and mechanical cooperation. and mechanized harvesting of seeds is the ultimate goal to be achieved.

Corn is the most widely planted and distributed food crop in China. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, according to preliminary statistics, the national corn machine yield in 2010 was only about 25%. By 2012, the national corn machine yield exceeded 40%, an increase of 6.5 percentage points over the previous year. The yield of corn machine in China has increased by more than 6% for 4 consecutive years, showing a trend of rapid development. However, due to the regional characteristics of our country, the yield of corn machine varies greatly in different provinces and regions, resulting in many corn anchor areas, corn mechanization harvest is still the most prominent and weakest link in corn production mechanization and even grain production mechanization.

With the transfer of rural labor to cities and towns, the traditional manual harvest is gradually unable to meet the needs of production development, on the one hand, manual harvest is very intensive, farmers are very hard, they expect mechanized harvest; on the other hand, with the increase of labor costs, and it is more and more difficult to hire labor, in the case of the same income, the labor force is more inclined to go to the city to work rather than engage in agricultural manual labor. Coupled with the development of centralized land planting, there is a more urgent need for efficient corn harvesting. From these aspects, the mechanized harvest of corn is the trend of the times.
