It is mainly distributed in six regions: the Sahara Desert of Africa, the Great Desert of Oceania, the Great Desert of Central Asia, the Great Arab Desert, the Great Desert of South America and the Great Desert of the western United States. Among them, from the Sahara Desert through the Arabian Desert to the Great Desert of Central Asia, it is almost a connected desert zone, accounting for about 67% of the total desert area of the world. The great desert of Central Asia includes the desert of Central Asia, Mongolia and the desert region of northwest China.

The land spans two climatic zones, roughly bounded by Tianshan Mountain and Mazong Mountain, and bounded by the western edge of Chijin Basin to Qilian Mountain. The north is temperate desert and the south is warm temperate desert. The total area of desert soil in China is about 740000 square kilometers, accounting for 7.71 percent of the country's total land area.
