The autumn planting period of balsam pear is generally from July to August, which has the advantages of suitable climate, easy management, long harvest time and high yield. The planting period of balsam pear in winter is from November to December. Due to the low temperature in winter, plastic film mulching should be adopted when planting, and the integrated irrigation technology of water and fertilizer under plastic film should be implemented. It can not only preserve fertilizer and water, increase soil temperature, promote normal growth and development of seedlings, increase yield, but also save labor and cost.

Because balsam pear seeds have thick seed shell and are not easy to absorb water, scalding seeds with warm water and soaking seeds to accelerate germination can promote seed water absorption and germination, meet the temperature conditions for seed germination, improve seed germination rate, and kill germs and insect eggs on the seed surface. to achieve the purpose of seed disinfection.

Selection of germination time of balsam pear seeds:

Seed soaking and sprouting should be carried out 5-6 days before sowing.

The first method of accelerating germination of balsam pear seeds:

Prepare about 55 ℃ of warm water and put it in a boiled water bottle or other container that can keep warm; put the balsam pear seeds in a gauze bag, wash them with clean water, and gently wipe the seeds to remove the impermeable substances on the surface. Soak the washed seeds in warm water, keep for 10 minutes, and stir constantly, then add cold water to lower the water temperature to 25 ℃ ~ 30 ℃, soak for more than 12 hours, fish out the seeds, wrap them in a wet cloth, put them in a box, cover them with a wet cloth, and place them in a place that can maintain a temperature of about 30 ℃ and have enough humidity to accelerate germination.

In the process of accelerating germination, it should be checked twice a day, not only to prevent water loss, but also to prevent excessive moisture and rotten seeds. After 2 or 3 days, the seeds can be sown when the radicle is about 3 mm.

The second method of accelerating germination of balsam pear seeds:

Soak the seeds in about 55 ℃ of warm water, naturally cool and continue to soak the seeds for more than 12 hours, wash the seeds in clean water, break the navel of balsam pear seeds slightly with teeth or sharp-nosed pliers, and then place them in a place that can maintain a temperature of about 30 ℃ and sufficient humidity to accelerate germination, and sow seeds when the seeds are exposed to about 3mm.
