Chinanews.com, Aug. 21-National early rice production data released by the National Bureau of Statistics today show that the national early rice output in 2015 was 33.691 million tons, a decrease of 320000 tons or 0.9 percent compared with 2014. In interpretation, Hou Rui, senior statistician of the Rural Department of the Bureau of Statistics, said that the sown area of early rice has decreased, on the one hand, because of drought during transplanting of early rice in some areas; on the other hand, because of the low efficiency and high labor intensity of planting early rice, some farmers have changed double-cropping rice to single-cropping rice.

Among them, the sown area of early rice was 5715.4 thousand hectares (85.731 million mu), a decrease of 79.5 thousand hectares (1.193 million mu), or 1.4 percent, compared with 2014; the per unit yield of early rice was 5894.8 kg / ha (393.0 kg / mu), an increase of 25.6 kg / ha (1.7kg / mu) over 2014, an increase of 0.4%.

Hou Rui pointed out that the sown area of early rice has been reduced. On the one hand, the drought occurred during the transplanting of early rice in some areas, which affected the cultivation of early rice; on the other hand, due to the low efficiency and high labor intensity of early rice planting, some farmers changed double-cropping rice to single-cropping rice. In 2015, due to the reduction of sown area, the national early rice output decreased by 467000 tons (930 million jin).

At the same time, Hou Rui also said that the per unit yield of early rice increased slightly in the same period. First, the overall agrometeorological conditions in most areas are good. Although during the growth period of early rice this year, some areas experienced low temperatures, droughts and floods, but the overall agrometeorological conditions were good, especially in the critical period of early rice growth, the impact of high temperature heat damage was relatively mild, and there was no strong typhoon weather in most major producing provinces and regions, which was very beneficial to the smooth grain filling and ripening and timely harvest of early rice. Second, the relevant departments of local governments continue to support early rice production through unified breeding, centralized seedling raising, and specialized unified control of diseases and insect pests, thus effectively ensuring the stability and improvement of early rice per unit yield. In 2015, due to the increase in per unit yield, the national early rice output increased by 146000 tons (290 million jin).
