Ryegrass is a kind of forage grass with great nutritional value, and sheep farmers often grow it for sheep as fodder. So when will ryegrass be sown? How to plant in order to achieve high yield and bumper harvest?

There are two kinds of ryegrass, annual ryegrass and perennial ryegrass. Annual ryegrass is planted once a year, and perennial ryegrass is planted every 5-6 years. Generally speaking, ryegrass is sown more in autumn. The yield of ryegrass can reach 5000-10000 kg per mu.

Ryegrass planting

Sowing seeds

Ryegrass prefers warm and humid climate, the optimum temperature for seed germination is above 13 ℃, and the seedlings can grow better when the temperature is above 10 ℃. Therefore, the sowing time of ryegrass is longer, which can be sowed both in autumn and spring. Autumn sowing is generally available from mid-September and late September to early November, mainly depending on the previous crops. If the special beverage land, it can be sown early in order to make full use of the favorable weather in September and October and strive to increase the yield of ryegrass.

► seeding quantity

In a certain area, the sowing amount is less and the ontogeny is better. However, reasonable close planting can give full play to the individual population production potential of ryegrass and increase the yield per unit area. The sowing rate of 1-1.5 kg per mu is the most suitable. In production, the specific sowing amount should be determined according to sowing date, soil conditions, seed quality, seedling rate, planting purpose and so on. General autumn sowing reserved fields, there should be about 35-400000 basic seedlings per mu, about 1 kg of sowing, for forage use, and need to increase the early yield, can be more sowing, 2.5-3 kg per mu.

► sowing method

Ryegrass seeds are small and require shallow sowing, rice stubble field soil water content is high, soil quality is heavy, autumn sowing is often continuous overcast and rain, or due to labor shortage in autumn harvest season.

In order to make ryegrass emergence quickly and neatly, where there are conditions, calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer 10kg / mu and fine soil 20kg / mu can be mixed with seeds and sown. In this way, the seeds can not be affected by the wind, avoid the luxuriant growth of rice, reduce the small ryegrass seeds are not easy to fall to the ground, and ensure uniform sowing. During the direct broadcast of the rice board, after sowing, a drainage ditch is opened every 2-4 meters, and the soil in the ditch is broken and covered on the border surface to cover the seed.

Increase fertilizer application

Ryegrass is an undergraduate crop with no nitrogen fixation. Therefore, increasing the application of nitrogen fertilizer is the key measure to give full play to the production potential of ryegrass, especially when it is used as beverage, it is necessary to apply nitrogen fertilizer after each cut, generally urea 5 kg / mu, so as to prolong the feeding period. With the increase of the total yield of stingy fresh grass with the application of nitrogen fertilizer, the daily grass yield also increased, and the grass quality was obviously improved, with tender quality, more crude protein and good palatability. To some extent, ryegrass fresh grass production is not afraid of more fertilizer, the more fertilizer, the more luxuriant production, the more repeated harvest. It is required to apply 25-30 kg calcium superphosphate per mu of ryegrass field as base fertilizer. It is generally appropriate not to apply nitrogen fertilizer in the field, and if the seedling growth is particularly poor, a little more nitrogen fertilizer should be applied appropriately.

Harvest

Ryegrass has strong regeneration ability and can be harvested repeatedly, so when ryegrass is used as feed, it should be harvested at the right time. The harvest times of ryegrass are mainly affected by sowing date, temperature during growth period and fertilization level. Ryegrass sown in autumn grows well and can be harvested many times.

In addition, the high level of fertilization, the rapid growth of ryegrass, can be harvested ahead of time, while increasing the number of harvesting; on the contrary, poor fertility, ryegrass growth is also poor, can not achieve a certain amount of biomass in a short time, it can not be harvested and utilized. Timely harvest, that is, when the ryegrass grows to more than 25 centimeters, if the plant is too short, the yield of fresh grass is not high, the harvest operation is also difficult. The stubble height during each harvest is about 5 cm to facilitate the regeneration of ryegrass stubble.

When the ryegrass grows to 35-40 cm high, the ryegrass is cut 2-3 cm high. Before the end of June of the following year, the ryegrass is cut 4-5 times in turn, and the yield per mu can reach 5000-10000 kg. After each cutting, 10 kg of available nitrogen fertilizer should be applied and watered once. Ryegrass is rich in nutrition, with 2.6% protein in fresh grass and 175 kg crude protein per mu, which is a good feed for livestock and poultry.
