What kind of spinach do you choose to grow in winter?

Spinach can be divided into five varieties: stubble spinach, buried spinach, spring spinach, summer spinach and autumn spinach. Winter spinach should choose varieties with strong cold tolerance, such as thorn-seeded spinach or pointed-leaf spinach.

How to grow winter spinach?

The climatic conditions of cool season and short days are very suitable for the growth of spinach. Spinach has good cold tolerance and can survive safely even in the cold winter. September and October are the largest planting area of spinach. "fast green" and "fast-growing big leaves" spinach are sown in early September and can be harvested in one month, with large round leaves and good color, which are very popular in the market. Overwintering spinach can also be grown in an idle greenhouse. New Year's Day can be listed one after another to the Spring Festival, which has the advantages of simple management and good benefit, and does not affect the production of main vegetables in the greenhouse in early spring.

1. Soil preparation and fertilization

The spinach field should choose the land with fertile, good heat preservation and water retention. Before ploughing, apply 5-6 cubic meters of high-quality farm manure and 40 kilograms of compound fertilizer. When preparing the land, leave enough space between the borders in order to set up a cold and wind barrier.

two。 Sowing at the right time

Overwintering spinach has strong cold tolerance only when the plant reaches 5-6 leaves. Therefore, it is the most suitable for sowing when the daily average temperature drops to 17 ℃ ~ 19 ℃ in autumn.

The sowing method is as follows: soak the seeds in warm water of 35 ℃ for 12 hours, remove them to dry, sow or strip sow in the field. After sowing, cover the soil to trample, sprinkle water, and then sprinkle on the surface with pesticides mixed with wheat bran to prevent mole cricket and other underground pests from harming the seedlings.

3. Pre-winter management

After spinach seedlings are unearthed, a shallow hoe to loosen the soil should be carried out to achieve the effect of weeding and preserving soil moisture. When the plant grows 3-4 leaves, it is necessary to keep the soil moist and topdressing as appropriate; when the plant grows 5-6 leaves, it is necessary to irrigate frozen water in time, and the watering time should be controlled at the time of diurnal freezing of the topsoil. It is best to use dung water to pour frozen water, which is conducive to the accelerated growth of spinach after turning green in early spring.

Spinach harvest time is not very strict, it can be harvested as soon as it reaches 20cm. It can be on the market about 40 days after sowing from August to early October, 70-80 days after sowing in mid-late October, and 25-30 days after overwintering spinach is green.
