Corn bald tip is one of the most common diseases during corn planting, which occurs to almost growers. In fact, this can be avoided. As long as we strengthen management measures to keep the soil moist and adequate water and fertilizer, what about the corn bald tip? How should farmers prevent it?

The bald tip of corn means that the upper part of the ear is not fruiting. Bald tip is more common in maize production, especially in disaster years, and even becomes the main factor of yield reduction.

The cause of bald tip of corn

1. Excessive density leads to malnutrition.

2. Overcast and rain in the later stage of pollination caused the top flower line to be unable to pollinate and bald.

3. Due to high temperature and drought before heading, the male and female florescence did not meet, and the top filaments could not be pollinated.

4. The neck filaments can not be pollinated due to drought or lack of rain in the late stage of female panicle differentiation.

Precautionary measures

1. Strengthen fertilizer and water management before male selection to avoid "sticking neck drought".

2. Determine the suitable density according to the characteristics of different varieties.

3. Select the suitable varieties according to the local climate and water and fertilizer conditions.

4. Timely early sowing can not only meet the demand for light and heat of maize, but also make effective use of natural precipitation to coordinate maize growth, and avoid diseases caused by cool weather in the later stage.

5. Artificial pollination can make up for the poor pollination caused by weather and other reasons, and effectively prevent the occurrence of baldness.
