Torch flower, also known as red fire stick and torch lotus, is a common perennial herb of Liliaceae in China. It is widely cultivated because of its color and shape like burning torches. At present, many people also raise it indoors to improve its ornamental value. When will the torch blossom? What month is the florescence? How can it blossom?

Flowering time:

If the seedlings of last year were transplanted and planted in April-June of the next year, the torch flowers in full bloom could be seen from September to October.

What month is the florescence?

The natural florescence of the torch flower is from May to the middle of June. the flower stem is usually 100mm / 140mm high, and the dwarf variety is about 40mm / 60mm. It is a dense spike raceme with a length of 20mm and 30mm, which is composed of more than a hundred florets. The number of florets can be more than 300. Florets bloom gradually from bottom to top, and the flowering period of an inflorescence is about 20 days. For a single plant with strong growth in early spring, the lateral buds in the lower part of the flower stem will sprout and blossom again after flowering. After the first batch of flowers bloomed on the rhizome group, some late-developing individual plants will also bloom another batch of flowers.

Culture techniques:

1. Soil floral apparatus

Torch flower is not very strict on soil, but it is suitable for loose and fertile sandy soil. If planted outdoors, choose normal garden soil. If potted indoors, you can use river sand, garden soil and rotten leaf soil according to 3:1:2 proportion.

The root system of torch flower is not very developed, fleshy, with less root hair, so it is appropriate to choose breathable clay pots or purple sand pots when choosing floral utensils. Because the torch flowers grow taller, the flowerpots should be slightly larger when choosing.

2. Water fertilizer

Torch lotus is resistant to drought and does not like to be wet, so it should be dry rather than wet at ordinary times, and it should be watered thoroughly at the beginning of the basin, which can be watered once every two weeks.

Before planting, the basin can prevent the mature cake fertilizer as the base fertilizer, and applying potassium dihydrogen phosphate once a month during the growing period can improve the soil, increase the nutrition needed for flowers, and apply organic compound fertilizer once before winter to supplement more correct nutrients.

3. Light temperature

Torch flowers like plenty of light, if growing in a hidden place, the leaves are often not glossy, the whole plant appears overgrown, no buds, daily length of 6 hours is appropriate, if the light is not too toxic, there is no need for sunshade. The suitable growth temperature of torch lotus is 18-30 degrees, and it can withstand the severe cold of minus 10 seasons in winter.

4. Pruning and shaping

Generally speaking, plants cultivated for more than two years need to be reshaped and pruned. If torch flowers grow for three years or more, each torch flower will grow more than a dozen tillering buds in its roots, which will cause growth crowding and poor ventilation. At this time, we have to prune and plant the cut seedlings separately.

5. Pest management

The common disease of torch flower is leaf spot disease, after the emergence of black spots in the leaves of the plant, mainly due to stuffy air and lack of ventilation, cut off the diseased branches and leaves in time after discovery, and cooperate with Bordeaux liquid spraying.

Torch flower common pests are beetles and aphids, sucking leaf juice, serious will appear the whole plant wilt, the whole plant can be sprayed with omethoate for control.
