Qilixiang flower, also known as Qianli incense, Wanli incense, Jiuqiuxiang, Jiushu incense, is a common Rutaceae small arbor plant in southern China. It is favored by people because of its persistent flowering period and rich fragrance. Is Qilixiang flower poisonous? When do they bloom? How do you raise them to bloom?

Is it poisonous?

At present, there is no record of Qilixiang being poisonous in any literature and materials. So it's nontoxic.

Time of flowering:

The flowering period of Qilixiang is relatively long. It usually blooms between April and September every year. Sometimes it blooms in autumn and winter. After flowering, it will bear fruit, and the fruit period is between September and December.

Floral morphology:

The flowers of Qilixiang are mainly terminal or axillary, usually with less than 10 flowers, and more than 50 flowers. The petals are oblanceolate or oblong, and when fully open there will be some irritation. The flowers are mainly white, but with some pale yellow oil spots. Seven mile incense flowers accompanied by fragrance, very rich.

Planting skills:

1. Germination

Soak seeds in lukewarm water (about the same temperature as wash water) for 12- 24 hours until they absorb water and swell. For common seeds that germinate easily, this work can be omitted.

2. Sowing

For small seeds that are difficult to pick up by hand or other tools, you can wet one end of the toothpick with water, stick the seeds one by one on the surface of the substrate, cover the substrate 1 cm thick, and then put the planted flowerpot into water, the depth of the water is 1/2 ~ 2/3 of the height of the flowerpot, and let the water slowly soak up (this method is called "pot dipping method").

For larger seeds that can be picked up by hand or other tools, place the seeds directly into the substrate and sow them at intervals of 3 × 5 cm. After sowing, cover the substrate, and the covering thickness is 2-3 times of the seed grain. After sowing, spray can be used, fine hole shower to sow the substrate wet, later when the pot soil slightly dry and then sprinkle water, still pay attention to watering strength can not be too large, so as not to wash the seeds up.

3. Management

After sowing in late autumn, early spring or winter, when encountering cold wave and low temperature, you can wrap the flower pot with plastic film to keep warm and moist; after the seedlings are unearthed, the film should be uncovered in time, and before 9:30 in the morning every day, or after 3:30 in the afternoon, let the seedlings receive the sun's light, otherwise the seedlings will grow very weak; most of the seeds need to be properly thinned: Remove diseased, unhealthy seedlings so that the remaining seedlings have a certain space between each other; when most seedlings grow three or more leaves, they can be transplanted.

4, others

Qilixiang can also carry out cuttage, but generally in late spring and early autumn with the branches of the year for young cuttings, or in early spring with the branches of the previous year for old cuttings.
