At present, it is the critical period of summer corn management, and it is found that there are many snails on corn plants. in recent years, the harm of snails has spread, which needs to be paid attention to. How to control the snails in the cornfield?

Symptoms of snail damage to corn

When snails harm corn, there will be striped cracks on corn leaves, and the leaves bitten by snails often leave only a layer of transparent epidermis at the cracks. When the damage is serious, it will lead to lack of seedlings and leaf distortion of corn, and then affect photosynthesis. Generally, the rate of damaged plants in the field is 10-15%, and the rate of damaged plants in serious fields is more than 50%, which will pose a threat to the normal growth of corn.

How to control the snails in the cornfield?

(1) Agricultural prevention and control

Often clean the countryside, destroy the snail's habitat and spawning sites, and reduce the source of insects. Deep in autumn and winter, eggs and overwintering adults can be turned to the surface, so that it is killed by the sun or eaten by natural enemies. Where the snail disaster is more serious, leave a small piece of mixed grass when ploughing the land in winter, spring and autumn, lure the snail, and then concentrate on extermination.

(2) physical prevention and control

Sprinkle a layer of quicklime around the plant in time, but do not sprinkle it on the front of the crop leaves, so as not to affect photosynthesis. When a snail comes out to feed at night, it will lose water and die when it comes across quicklime. Or scatter quicklime in farmland ditch edge, ridge, form blockade zone, use quicklime 5-7 kilograms per mu, the effect is worse when the ground is wet.

(3) manual capture

When snails are endangered before sunrise in the morning or on cloudy and rainy days, they should be caught manually on the ground and on plants in time.

(4) Pesticide control

During the peak period of snails, 600 grams of 10% snail enemy (polyacetaldehyde) granules per mu were evenly sprinkled on the border in the evening, or the granules were applied on the lower ground of the plant; 80% tetraacetaldehyde 30-60 grams per mu could also be selected and sprayed with water. The harm of snails can be effectively controlled by the second prevention and control of snail occurrence in the field every 10-15 days.
