Chayote, also known as holding melon, longevity melon, cucumber, palm melon, etc., is a common gourd plant in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and other places, because it has the meaning of blessing, and can be used as vegetables, but also as fruit food and deeply loved by people, at present many areas are planting, what varieties of Chayote do you have? When will it be ready? How do you know?

1. What kinds of chayote are there?

There are many varieties of Hanzhu melon, which can be divided into white skin species and green skin species according to color. The main characteristics are as follows:

1. Green seed chayote: Green seed grows fast, fruit is large and fruit rate is high, but the quality is not very good, taste is slightly lighter, so it is not very popular with people, but there are also some areas planted.

2, white seed bergamot: white seed growth rate is slow and low, but the appearance is smooth without thorns, good quality, so many areas have been cultivated, including Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Xiangjiang and other places planted a wide range.

When is the second best time to plant?

The open field planting of chayote is generally planted in April to May, and the greenhouse planting is generally planted in March. The specific situation needs to be determined according to the local climatic conditions.

3. How does chayote sprout?

1. Land selection: Chayote has weak resistance and likes to grow in sandy soil with sufficient light, good permeability and good drainage. Therefore, when selecting land, try to choose sandy soil with sufficient light and good drainage or neutral loam with weak viscosity.

2. Sowing seedlings:

(1)Deep turning: Before sowing seeds, it is best to turn the soil deeply and sprinkle a small amount of farm manure to increase the fertility of the soil, and then turn it deeply to make the soil even. When deep ploughing, dig a small ditch as far as possible to facilitate later drainage and irrigation.

(2)Sowing method: Put the budding chayote into the soil hole, then slowly cover the soil, and pour a small amount of water to let it grow freely.

3. Field management

(1)Fertilization: chayote fertilizer requirements are not high, generally three times during the growth period can be fertilized, of which the growth period is mainly urea, flowering period is mainly foliar fertilizer and farm manure, the fruit period is mainly boron fertilizer, so fertilization, try to grasp the time.

(2)Watering: fingered citron requires a large amount of water, especially when it comes to high temperature season, it is necessary to keep the soil moist, so as not to evaporate the water, causing the vine to stop growing and affecting the growth of the whole plant.

(3)Pruning: during the growth period of chayote, there will be dense fruit phenomenon, so according to the actual situation, the surrounding poor growth or relatively dense melon should be removed to balance nutrients, which is conducive to the later growth and development of melon and improve yield.

4. Branch management

Chayote is a vine plant, so when it grows to 40cm, it should be fixed with triangular brackets to allow it to climb and grow, so as to reduce the occurrence of pests and diseases and improve yield.
