Leek is a common ingredient in our daily life. We need to pay attention to a lot when growing leek, although leek is easy to survive, but want to grow well, suitable for market demand, we need to plant carefully, but also need to pay attention to methods. The following will tell you how to grow leeks.

I. Variety selection

All varieties of leek can be potted, but it is best to choose varieties with strong growth, such as 791 leek and Korean leek, which can be sown and raised seedlings, or directly planted with leek root.

2. Selection of basin and basin soil

Tile pots, ceramic pots and plastic pots are available, but flowerpots with good appearance, light texture, water permeability and good air permeability are better. When planting indoor balcony, the flowerpot should have a bottom plate to prevent exudation from affecting the health of the balcony when watering. The diameter is more than 20 cm, and there should be seepage holes at the bottom. Due to the limited container space, the root growth of potted leek is limited, so the cultivated soil in the pot must contain sufficient fertility in order to maintain the need of continuous growth and continuous harvest of leek. The ratio of general culture soil is 3 parts of mature leaves, 2 parts of rotten livestock and poultry manure, 2 parts of bone meal, 5 parts of high-quality farmland soil, or 2 parts of basin soil made of 5 parts of mature farm manure, 3 parts of garden soil and sand soil. When entering the basin, the bottom hole of the basin is covered with 1-2 pieces of broken tiles, filled with a little coarse sand, and loaded with nutritious soil to 2-3 cm on the edge of the basin.

3. Sowing and raising seedlings

Seedling management: promote growth in the early stage, properly control water in the later stage, and squat seedlings to promote roots. The main measures are as follows: first, watering and mastering "frequent shallow irrigation", watering small water once every 3 ~ 5 days according to soil conditions; second, weeding and timely removal of weeds in the border; third, proper topdressing, topdressing 1 ~ 2 times of available nitrogen fertilizer when the seedlings grow to 10 cm high. In order to cultivate the leek root, it was not harvested that year.

Balcony planting leek, spring, summer and autumn can be sown or planted with leek root. It is best to sow with the new seeds of the same year, sowing and raising seedlings from mid-April to early May, first pour the flowerpot with sufficient bottom water, then sow the seeds, cover 1 cm thick nutritious soil, and always keep the surface of the basin soil in a moist state without hardening, and water properly according to the conditions of the pot soil after emergence. The root of leek should be planted in spring. Due to the limited space, the planting density of leek in the basin should not be too high. Watering should be done in time after planting to promote the survival of seedlings.

IV. Daily management

When the new leaves are issued, the seedlings are watered in time according to the dry and wet condition of the basin soil, and the pot soil is ploughed to preserve soil moisture. Always keep the soil moist. After entering autumn, the weather is getting cooler and cooler, which is suitable for the vigorous growth of leeks. It is necessary to fully supply fertilizer and water, generally watering once every 4-5 days, and topdressing 3-4 times. After topdressing, the pieces such as sesame cake and bean cake were fermented in a sealed container, and the rotten upper liquid was added with 10-15 times of water to promote leaf growth and lay a good foundation for bulb expansion and root growth. After that, the temperature continues to drop, and the plant grows slowly, so as to reduce watering appropriately and keep the basin soil dry. In the year of planting, according to the growth situation, it can be harvested properly when the growth is strong, but not when the growth is weak, focus on root cultivation, and change the basin soil every 2 years, which should be carried out in the winter dormancy period.

5. Timely harvesting

The yield of leek was lower in the first 1-2 years after planting, the peak growth period was 3-6 years, and the yield was the highest. When it entered the senescence stage after 10 years, it should be planted in time. The number of harvests each year depends on the growth of leeks, fertilization and the market situation. The standard of cutting leeks with 7 leaves and 1 heart is the best in the early morning, and it is advisable to cut to the yellow leaf sheath of 3-4 cm on the bulb. After that, each knife should be slightly higher than that of the previous stubble to ensure normal growth.

The above is the planting method of leek sorted out by the editor for you. Have you learned it?
