Leek, also known as lazybones, aphrodisiac grass, etc., has a very strong fragrance, many people like, eat a variety of ways. Leek is also very simple to grow, its adaptability is very strong, cold and heat-resistant, basically do not need management, so it is called lazybones. The remarkable effect of leek is tonifying the kidney and strengthening yang, so it is also called aphrodisiac grass. So how do you grow leeks on the balcony?

First, select the basin and soil.

The pots used to grow leeks can choose tile pots, ceramic pots, or plastic pots, preferably with flowerpots with light texture and good water permeability. If you plant indoors, put a bottom plate on it to prevent the water from leaking out and soiling the floor. Chinese chives do not have high requirements for soil quality, but fertile humus soil is more conducive to the growth of leek.

The potted soil in the potted plant should be fertile enough to maintain the sustainable growth of leek. It can be mixed with garden soil, sand, farmland soil and fertilizer to form potted soil. The basin is covered with a layer of broken tiles or coarse sand to keep the soil loose and breathable.

2. Sowing and raising seedlings

Leek is a light-loving vegetable. The balcony is the first choice to put the leek in a place with plenty of light. The growth of leek should be promoted in the seedling stage, and the water should be properly controlled in the later stage. Watering should master "frequent shallow irrigation", watering once every 3-4 days. Weeding is also very important, it is necessary to clean up the weeds in the border in time, and apply fertilizer properly, topdressing 1-2 times of available nitrogen fertilizer.

When planting leek on the balcony, it is best to use the new seed of the year when sowing. The planting time is from mid-April to early May, sowing and raising seedlings. It should be noted that the planting density of leek in the basin should not be too large, and it should be watered in time after planting, so as to promote the survival of seedlings.

III. Daily management

When the new leaves of leek are sent out, we should pay attention to keep the soil moist and water the seedlings in time according to the dry and wet condition of the basin soil. After the beginning of autumn, the weather is getting cooler and cooler, which is more suitable for the exuberant growth of leeks. During this period, we should pay attention to the adequate supply of fat and water.

IV. Mature harvesting

When harvesting leeks, be careful not to hurt the roots, as long as you cut to 1 cm below the soil. The harvest period should be controlled, never less than 28 days, otherwise the leek seedlings will be cut finer and thinner. After the leek seedlings are harvested, the flowerpot should be covered strictly with plastic film, and only after the leek wound has healed can the plastic bag be removed and watered.

Prevention and control of diseases and insect pests

The main pests of leek are aphids, mites, whitefly and all kinds of green insects. Cigarette butt extract can be used to kill insects. If the effect is not obvious, it can be used to control aphids, acaricides, pesticides and other pesticides with a brush dipped in the stems and leaves of the plant.

There are three main diseases of leek, namely, virus disease, anthracnose and soft rot. Seed soaking in 55 ℃ warm water, soil disinfection with mancozeb and chlorothalonil can effectively prevent the occurrence of this kind of disease.

The above is a brief introduction to the method of planting leek on the balcony. Plant a pot of leek on the balcony at home and cut it when you want to eat it. It is both environmentally friendly and simple, and it is much more convenient than going to the vegetable market. You might as well try it at home.
