Watercress, correct name watercress, belongs to cruciferous vegetables. It is one of the main leafy vegetables planted in autumn, winter and spring harvest in Guangdong Province. Watercress taste sweet and cool, clear heat and moisten the lungs, contains a variety of vitamins, high superoxide dismutase, has anti-aging effect. Many watercress on the market use a lot of nutrients to speed up growth, so it is really not easy to eat safe and healthy watercress. When do watercress usually grow? What are the key points of planting techniques?

When do you usually grow watercress?

Watercress is generally planted from August to September, with the progress of technology, it can be cultivated all the year round, but it is suitable to be maintained indoors in winter in the north.

Western vegetables are suitable for open field cultivation, for poolside, stream side landscaping plants, can also be potted ornamental. It is mainly used for greening or covering the edge of garden waterscape and shallow water area.

2. Key points of planting techniques of watercress

The growth cycle of watercress is very short, which takes about 20-30 days from planting to harvest. It grows well at 15-25 ℃, grows rapidly and has good quality at about 20 ℃, grows slowly below 10 ℃ and can endure frost for a short time, and grows hard above 30 ℃ and is prone to disease. Base fertilizer must be adequate, generally not topdressing, and those without base fertilizer can be topdressing once after planting. As the plant grows, it deepens the water layer and maintains the water depth of 5-7cm to the peak growth period. If the water layer is too deep, the plant is easy to grow, there are many adventitious roots, and the stems and leaves turn yellow; if the water layer is too shallow, the new stem is easy to age, which affects the yield and quality. Watercress likes light, lack of light or planting is too dense, stem and leaf growth is weak. When harvested, 1-4 of the cultivated area was reserved for propagation.

1. Watercress seedling

The watercress that can be bought in the market can be directly used for cutting. the old stem is better, and it is easier to survive if there are adventitious roots. Cut the stem of watercress into small segments of about 10-15 cm, each with about 3-5 nodes.

Insert the cuttings obliquely into the soil, with a depth of about 3-5 cm, preferably half-lying, so that the stem is as close to the soil surface as possible, pour water through, and it is best to maintain a water level of about 1 cm.

If you want to plant separately, the cuttings should be carried out about 1 month later, with a spacing of about 10 cm.

2. Daily management of watercress

Like moist, avoid drought, need to be often watered to keep the soil moist, preferably water planting, the water level should be shallow, the water level is generally maintained at 3-5 cm during the peak growth period.

It is cold-resistant but not heat-resistant, the suitable temperature for growth is 1525 ℃, the growth is blocked when it is higher than 30 ℃, the growth stops below 10 ℃, and the winter can be overwintered in the open field about 0 ℃; like sufficient light, it is best to have 7-8 hours of light every day, but it is best to move to a cool place when the summer temperature is high.

More fertilizer is needed, but it is best to apply all-element fertilizer and spray mature organic fertilizer for each harvest.

There are few diseases and insect pests, which are mainly eliminated by hand in time. If the pest is more serious, you can also add water to submerge the plant, drown the pest and then discharge the water.

3. Watercress harvest

The tender stem can be harvested when the plant height is about 20 cm (about 10-15 cm).
