Axillary lip orchid is a very popular flower with white, crimson, orange-red, purple-red, yellowish green, purple-black and complex spots and stripes. The flower has a strong creamy chocolate fragrance, flowering in spring or summer and autumn. This kind of flower can not only purify the air, but also treat rheumatoid arthritis. What are the breeding methods and matters needing attention of axillary lip orchid? Let's learn about it.

1. Brief introduction of axillary lip orchid

The genus is a larger genus of Orchidaceae, with about 570 species, distributed in tropical and subtropical areas with elevations of 0-3500 meters. Because of their wide distribution, the plants of the genus Cymbidium are also very diverse, and they are sometimes called Spider Orchid, Flame Orchid or Tiger Orchid according to their morphology. In fact, its scientific name comes from the Latin word "maxilla", which means "jawbone". It refers to the part where the core column meets the lip flap, which looks like the jaw of some kind of beetle, so it is called jaw lip orchid. But to more people, this jaw-like part is actually more like a person's armpit, so it is customary to call it "armpit lip orchid".

2. Culture methods and matters needing attention of axillary lip orchid

1. Temperature

The plant of Cymbidium can endure the low temperature of 5 ℃ ~ 8 ℃ under artificial cultivation environment, and the suitable temperature for growth is 20 ℃ ~ 30 ℃ in the whole year. Potted plants in the south of the Tropic of Cancer can survive the winter normally in the open air, while in the Yangtze River basin or in the north, they are cultivated in medium or high temperature greenhouse to avoid freezing damage.

2. Lighting

Axillary lip orchid needs to have strong scattered light, but avoid strong direct light.

3. Watering

The three seasons of spring, summer and autumn are the growing period of axillary lip orchid. In order to keep the cultivation materials moist without stagnant water, the substrate in the basin should be watered as soon as it is dry, but watering should be properly controlled during flowering, and it should not be watered against buds and flowers, otherwise it is easy to wither prematurely.

Water moss can be used to maintain hydraulic power during cultivation and can be watered when the water moss is semi-dry. if you see wrinkles in the pseudobulm of axillary lip orchid, it means that there is a lack of water, and watering can restore the original state at this time.

Every spring and summer, axillary lip orchids sprout from the bottom of the pseudobulb and grow quickly. It is recommended to replace it with a larger basin at this time, so that the basin can not only keep moisture, but also will not be dumped because of neutral and uneven.

4. Fertilizer

Armpit lip orchid like fertilizer, the growth period to ensure that there is enough fertilizer, otherwise the false bulb can not get sufficient nutrients, not only become smaller, but also easy to wrinkle, lack of bright and moist color, seriously affect the ornamental effect.

5. Methods of reproduction

The propagation of axillary lip orchid is mainly ramet, which is more suitable in spring and summer. It can be planted in the basin with 3-5 balls as a unit.

6. Diseases and insect pests

The main diseases of axillary lip orchid are blight, anthracnose, white silk disease, leaf blight and so on. The main pests of axillary lip orchid are shell insects, red spiders, aphids, snails and slugs and so on.
