"China and ASEAN countries have mutual advantages in agriculture and have great potential for cooperation, and will vigorously promote bilateral and multilateral agricultural cooperation and development in the context of Belt and Road Initiative." On the 19th, Xiao Zhongkai, deputy director of the Council of the all-China Federation of supply and Marketing Cooperation, said at the 2015 China-ASEAN Agricultural Materials Industry Summit held in Nanning, Guangxi.

Agriculture once played an important role on the ancient Silk Road, but in China's "Belt and Road Initiative" strategy, agriculture is still an important aspect of foreign cooperation and exchanges.

Xiao Zhongkai said: in the construction of "Belt and Road Initiative", China will further strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation with ASEAN countries in agricultural materials, trade of agricultural products, exchange of agricultural information, and agricultural technological innovation, and build a new platform for exchange and cooperation.

Zheng Yougui, a researcher at the Institute of Contemporary China of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that China and ASEAN countries have their own advantages in agriculture. For example, rice produced by ASEAN countries can help China solve the problem of shortage of staple food. At the same time, China can also strengthen cooperation with ASEAN countries in fisheries, offshore fishing and other fields, and the two sides have broad prospects for cooperation in agricultural technology, machinery, trade and other fields.

Li Dianping, president of the China-ASEAN Agricultural Materials Chamber of Commerce, believes that the "Belt and Road Initiative" strategy has brought quite good opportunities for agricultural exchanges and cooperation between China and ASEAN countries.

It is understood that the "2015 China-ASEAN Agricultural Materials Industry Summit" is one of a series of economic and trade activities of the 12th China-ASEAN Expo. In the future, the meeting will be organized into a regular, institutionalized, and branded coordination and communication platform.
