Tomato is one of the most important vegetable crops in the process of production and cultivation in our country. at present, the planting area of tomato is expanding, so how to plant tomato seeds? When is the right season to grow?

When is the right season to grow tomatoes?

If the tomato is planted in the open field, the requirement of the season is very high, and the tomato can grow and mature only in summer. Usually the sowing time is from March to May, and the seedlings are transplanted and planted from April to May. But growing tomatoes in a greenhouse can grow all the year round.

Specific reference: the sowing period of spring planting in plain area is from the end of December to February, autumn planting is from early July to August, winter planting is from October to early November, and when summer is used for out-of-season cultivation, the altitude above 400 meters should be selected.

Second, how to plant tomato seeds?

1. Seed and plot treatment

The seeds are exposed to sunlight for one or two days to reduce the number of bacteria on the seeds to ensure the germination rate of the seeds, and the seeds need to be disinfected with carbendazim solution after drying.

The site of tomato sowing should be flat, sunny, close to water source and leeward, and the loam with deep soil layer, loose and fertile soil and rich organic matter should be required, and the previous cropping should be rice, and continuous cropping with Solanaceae, tobacco, peanut and so on should be avoided. Sandy soil is prone to bacterial wilt and should not be selected.

2. Sowing method

Generally, it can be sowed in the seedling field or in the nutrition cup.

(1) sowing in seedling field

The nursery bed should be chosen before as the place for rice. The effect of raising seedlings with nutrition cup is good, and the effect of preventing bacterial wilt is very obvious. After planting, the plant growth is relatively good, the yield is high, but the disadvantage is that it is more labor-consuming.

(2) Nutrition cup sowing

The following formula can be used for nutrition cup soil: the proportion of paddy soil or burning soil or raw soil below 50 cm below the surface, rotten livestock manure and plant ash is 6:2:2, and a small amount of compound fertilizer is added (the recommended amount is 0.2% of the nutritional weight).

Fully wet the seedling land or nutrition cup soil before sowing. Sow one seed in each cup, sowing in the seedling field should be sown as sparsely as possible. After sowing, cover the soil slightly and then cover the straw. Wet with flowers every day to ensure sprouting.

3. Field management

(1) watering

Tomato has developed root system, strong absorptive capacity, luxuriant stems and leaves, strong transpiration and more water demand, but it does not need a large amount of irrigation, especially in the seedling stage and early flowering stage.

(2) temperature

The most suitable temperature for tomato growth is 20 ℃ 25 ℃, when the temperature is lower than 10 ℃, the plant stops growing, and when the temperature is higher than 35 ℃, the reproductive growth is disturbed and destroyed.

(3) Lighting

Most tomato varieties blossomed earlier and grew healthily under 11 Mel 13 hours of sunshine, but grew best under 16 hours of light.

(4) Disease prevention

Tomatoes mainly prevent Fusarium wilt and virus.

Fusarium wilt: the disease is the main disease at this time, which is destructive, so we should focus on prevention and control.

Virus disease: the environment is hot and dry, plants are deficient in zinc and silicon, and insects spread, which are the conditions for the outbreak of virus disease. Therefore, rational application of zinc fertilizer and silicon fertilizer, avoiding high temperature and drying, and eliminating disease-transmitting insects are the main preventive measures.
