Sugarcane is the main cash crop in sugar producing countries. Its stalk is an important raw material for sugar production. Cellulose can be used for papermaking. Culm tips and leaves are widely used for livestock feed, such as cattle and sheep. Where is the origin of sugarcane? How to increase sweetness?

Where is the origin of sugarcane?

1. The origin of sugarcane

From a worldwide point of view, sugarcane is abundant in Southeast Asian Pacific island countries, Oceania islands and Cuba.

From the current situation of sugarcane planting in China, it is mainly concentrated in Hainan, Guangxi, Sichuan, Jiangxi, Hunan and southern Yunnan.

It is also worth mentioning that China is the third largest sugarcane producing area in the world, while Guangxi is the largest sugarcane producing area in China.

2. Types of sugarcane

However, due to the differences in climatic and geographical factors, there are also differences in sugarcane varieties. It is mainly divided into three categories:

(1) High sugar varieties

It refers to sugarcane varieties with a sucrose content of 170.18% at maturity, such as NTSC 25, NTSC 20, Garden 1 and so on.

(2) varieties of medium sugar

It refers to sugarcane varieties with a sucrose content of 1617% at maturity, such as NTSC 16 and 26.

(3) low sugar varieties

It refers to varieties with less than 15% sucrose when sugarcane is mature, such as NTSC 21, NTSC 23 and so on.

How to increase the sweetness of sugarcane?

So in addition to selecting sugarcane varieties with high sucrose content, what other methods can increase the sweetness of sugarcane?

1. Use gibberellin

Practice has proved that gibberellin should be sprayed once at the beginning of sugarcane jointing. After that, you can spray it every 15 days, 3-4 times in a row. It not only increases the length of basal internodes and grows rapidly, but also makes sugarcane crisp and sweet.

2. Application of biological fertilizer

The application of biological fertilizer can not only increase the yield of sugarcane, but also improve the quality of sugarcane, in which increasing the sweetness of sugarcane is a more obvious performance. According to the actual operation of sugarcane farmers, the good sucrose content of biological fertilizer is much higher than that of chemical fertilizer.

Warm reminder:

Planting sugarcane in the north of China is different from that in the south, artificial breeding must be adopted in production, which is the key to the success of planting sugarcane in the north. For example, Hebei and Beijing-Tianjin areas generally begin to raise seedlings around the second month of the lunar calendar, and they can be transplanted to the field 45 days after the seedling stage. All localities can adopt greenhouse greenhouse, plastic greenhouse or large arch greenhouse nutrition bowl to raise seedlings according to their own conditions and sugarcane planting area.
