Borage, also known as star grass, its leaves are used as vegetables in European countries, and fresh and dried leaves can be used for stews and soups and beverages. The flowers of borage are very beautiful, so what is the flower language of borage? What are the key points of planting techniques?

What is the flower language of borage?

The flower language of borage is courage. During the crusade in ancient Europe, the flowers of borage would be sprinkled in the wine for the officers and soldiers to practice. It is not nonsense to say that borage can enhance courage. Modern medical research has found that borage can promote the secretion of epinephrine, which can strengthen the contraction of the heart, which is exciting. Perhaps it is precisely because of this feature that it is particularly suitable for soldiers to drink wine soaked in borage before the war.

2. Planting techniques of borage

1. The propagation method of borage.

Borage can be propagated by direct seeding, seedling raising and transplanting. Open field cultivation is generally suitable for spring sowing, and protected field cultivation can be carried out throughout the year as needed. The seed is nutlet, the seed coat is hard, soak in warm water for 1-2 days before sowing, change water every day, sow seedlings quickly and neatly after soaking. Then the treated seeds were burrowed and sowed in the whole seedbed. Sow 3 seeds per hole, 0.5 grams per square meter, and cover fine soil with a thickness of 2 centimeters. Sowing is mostly carried out from March to April, and two or three times of thin fertilizer can be applied in May to promote flower bud differentiation. Picking seeds can spread the newspaper under the plant on a sunny day, shake the branches, and the seeds will fall.

2. Seedling stage management

After the emergence of borage, check the field and replant in time, and remove weak seedlings, diseased seedlings and superfluous seedlings according to the distance between the three true leaves. The plot with better seedling emergence is guaranteed to have one seedling per hole, and the plot with poor seedling emergence can leave two seedlings, not three or even four seedlings in one hole, otherwise the plant is too dense and easy to cause lodging and reduce yield.

3. Weeding and soil preparation

Borage applied 135 ml per mu before mulching to control most broad-leaved grasses and barnyardgrasses. After the seedling, you can use 12.5% per mu to catch 100 ml of weeds. It can also be weeded manually, weeded between seedlings, weeded for the second time before jointing, and weeded for the third time according to the situation if the grass famine is serious. The operation channel should be arranged after each weeding to ensure that there are no cracks on the surface.

4. Fertilizer and water management

During the whole growth period, borage was watered three times, in the middle of May, the middle of June and the first and middle of July, respectively, to ensure that the field was moist during the leaf growth period, and the watering was reduced or even not watered after flowering, each time 200,250 cubic meters per mu. When watering, try not to pour sediment into the field, so as not to form a soil layer on the surface of the plastic film, which is not conducive to the later harvest. It is appropriate to water when there is no wind in sunny days, and avoid watering in windy and rainy weather, otherwise it will cause lodging and reduce production. After watering for 2-3 days, the operation channel should be leveled and covered with 2-3 square meters of fine sand per mu to seal the cracks so as to prevent pre-mature seeds from falling into the cracks. At the same time of the second watering, 20 kg of organic compound fertilizer or 20 kg of ammonium dihydrogen phosphate were applied per mu. 2-3 days before the third watering and 2-3 days after watering, 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution was sprayed 245 kg per mu to promote grain maturity and fullness.

5. Harvest

Harvest time: borage seeds mature and drop in batches, and timely harvest is very important. The grain harvested early is immature, not full, and the quality is low, which can not meet the processing requirements. If the harvest is too late, the grain loss is serious and the yield is reduced. The grain maturity was observed from late July and could be harvested when most inflorescences turned brown, usually in mid-late August.
