Sugarcane borer, also known as sugarcane borer, is a common and serious pest in sugarcane growth. So what is the occurrence regularity and harm of sugarcane borer? How to prevent and cure?

First, what is the occurrence regularity and harm of sugarcane borer?

The common borer in sugarcane field are: Chilo suppressalis, striped borer, yellow borer, white borer and so on.

1. Occurrence regularity and harm of Chilo suppressalis.

(1) occurrence regularity

The insect has 4-5 generations a year in Guangxi, and the generations overlap; the larvae pupate in the sugarcane, and the overwintering larvae are often in the underground sugarcane; the eggs are mostly laid on the back of the green leaves in the middle and lower part of the sugarcane seedlings, arranged in 3-4 rows of fish scales, and the eggs are flat and oval. There are five longitudinal lines on the back of the larva.

(2) harm condition

In the early stage, the larvae were eaten into the stem of sugarcane seedlings, resulting in withered seedlings, which could be transformed into plants, and in the later stage, the stem borer nodes were formed. There are two peak periods of damage in a year: one is from late March to mid-late April, the other is from late May to late June, and the first peak is the most serious.

2. Occurrence regularity and harm of stripe borer

(1) occurrence regularity

The insect has 4-5 generations a year in Guangxi, and the mature larvae often winter in the leaf sheath or in the sugarcane; the eggs are mostly laid on the front of the sugarcane leaves, arranged in the shape of double rows of "human", and the eggs are flattened and oval. There are four longitudinal lines on the back of the larva.

(2) harm condition

Newly hatched larvae live in groups to harm the heart leaves, resulting in a layer of translucent irregular spots after the sugarcane leaves are unfolded, which is called "mosaic". During the elongation period, withered shoots and stem borer nodes were formed by invading from the shoots of sugarcane, which seriously affected the growth of sugarcane.

3. Occurrence regularity and harm of white borer.

(1) occurrence regularity

The insect has 4 or 5 generations a year in Guangxi, overwintering with mature larvae in the shoots of sugarcane, and the eggs are mostly laid on the back of sugarcane leaves.

(2) harm condition

The newly hatched larvae feed downward from the trigeminal mouth, and there are rows of feeding holes after the heart leaves are unfolded. Downward decay harms the growing point, causing a withered heart or shoot. The peak of damage generally occurs in early May, early June, late July, early September and late October.

4. Occurrence regularity and harm of yellow borer.

(1) occurrence regularity

The insect has 6-7 generations a year in Guangxi, and the generations overlap and endanger all the year round; the eggs are scattered, mostly in the old leaf sheath at the base of sugarcane seedlings; and the mature larvae often pupate at the place where they eat. The insect likes to be wet, and the rainy season is favorable for its occurrence.

(2) harm condition

The newly hatched larvae invaded from the sugarcane teeth or root zone and caused withered seedlings in the seedling stage, while in the later stage, they invaded from the bud eye, root zone and growth zone to form decayed buds and wind-broken stems. The larvae had no harm to transgenic plants, and there were 6-7 peaks in Guangxi in the whole year, among which there were a large number from March to June.

Second, how to control sugarcane borer?

1. Eliminate the overwintering sugarcane borer and reduce the insect source.

When harvesting sugarcane, cut it low with a small hoe, remove the residual stems, withered seedlings and withered leaves in the sugarcane field in time, and burn them on the spot. Cut off the autumn and winter bamboo shoots before the emergence of adult sugarcane borer. In the sugarcane field without persistent roots, plough and burn the sugarcane head or soak the sugarcane field for 3 days to eliminate the source of overwintering insects.

2. Chemical control

According to the occurrence time and air temperature of the first generation sugarcane borer in previous years, the suitable period for sugarcane first generation borer control in 2017 is late March and early and middle April (the specific time is based on the local forecast time).

Specific operations:

Five days before the peak incubation period, spray sugarcane plants, especially heart leaves and stems, with 20% sugarcane EC or 51% chlorpyrifos 100 ml / mu with 40-45 kg water. Spraying once in about 10 days and twice in succession can effectively control the occurrence of sugarcane borer at seedling stage and in the middle and later stage of sugarcane.
