Species of okra

Okra is known as the king of vegetables and has high economic use and edible value. At present, it is widely cultivated in Hunan, Hubei, Guangdong and other provinces in China. The following is an introduction to the planting technology of okra in 2019 for your reference.

1. Planting time of okra

Okra likes warmth and is afraid of frost. the whole growth period should be arranged in the frost-free period, and the flowering and fruiting period should be in the warm and humid season. Cultivation in open field, sowing in April-June and harvest in July-October in the north and south of China. The seeds in North China are usually sown from mid-late April to May. Seedlings are raised in solar greenhouses and plastic greenhouses commonly used in cold areas in the north, and then planted in the field after frost in early spring and evening.

2. Variety selection of okra

In the Yangtze River Basin and South China, varieties such as "Taiwan Wufu", "Tokyo Wujiao" and "Beautiful Wujiao" should be selected, with a general yield of 1000-2000 kg per mu.

3. Sowing and raising seedlings of okra

Soak the seeds in 20-25 ℃ warm water for 12 hours before sowing, then dry them, accelerate germination at 25-30 ℃ for 48 hours, wait for half of the seeds to be white, dig holes according to row spacing of 70 cm and plant spacing of 40 cm, first pour enough bottom water, sow 2-3 seeds per hole, cover soil 2-3 cm, and plant about 6000 holes per mu.

IV. Colonization of okra

After the seedlings are unearthed, the weak seedlings and diseased seedlings should be removed in time. When the seedlings have 2 or 3 true leaves, the seedlings should be fixed or planted, with two rows per box, 66 cm between rows and 40 cm between 50 centimeters. 2000 seedlings will be planted per mu, and 2 strong seedlings will be planted in each nest. After fixing the seedlings, the soil should be cultivated once, and after planting, enough fixed root and clear dung water should be applied to facilitate survival.

5. Field management of okra

1. Intermediate seedlings

When the heart is broken, the seedlings are broken for the first time, and the weak seedlings are removed from time to time. When 2-3 true leaves are interspersed for the second time, strong seedlings are selected. The seedlings were fixed with 3-4 true leaves, and 1 plant was left in each hole.

2. Weeding and soil cultivation by ploughing

After the seedlings are unearthed or planted, the temperature is low, so they should be ploughed twice in a row to increase the ground temperature and promote slow seedling.

3. Watering and fertilization

(1) watering

Okra requires higher air and soil moisture during its growth period. Artificial sprinkler irrigation should be done in the morning and evening when there is a shortage of water within 20 days after sowing. After the seedlings are slightly larger, mechanical sprinkler irrigation or furrow irrigation can be used. The hot summer season should be watered before 9 o'clock in the morning and after sunset in the afternoon to avoid root damage caused by watering under high temperature.

(2) topdressing

On the basis of sufficient basic fertilizer, proper topdressing should be applied, not partial application of nitrogen fertilizer.

VI. Harvesting of okra

Okra begins to blossom and bear fruit from section 4 to 8. Under the condition of suitable temperature, tender fruit can be harvested 2-4 days after flowering. Generally, the tender fruit can be harvested and listed when it grows to 6-8 cm long and weighs about 12 grams. The early harvest yield is low, and the fiber weight is too late to be eaten. It is usually harvested once every 2-3 days in the early harvest period, once every day or every other day in the peak harvest period, and once in 3-4 days in the middle and late harvest.
