Asparagus is known as the "king of vegetables" and "anti-cancer health food" because of its edible tender stems shaped like Reed buds and bamboo shoots, so where is the origin of asparagus? Which varieties are easy to cultivate?

Where is the origin of asparagus?

Asparagus is mainly produced in the United States, France, China, Spain and Japan. The distribution of wild asparagus in China is from north to south, dense in mountain forests, but not in East African forest regions.

The main producing areas of asparagus artificial planting are Taiwan, Fujian, Shandong, Shanxi, Jiangxi, Jiangsu and other regions.

Second, which varieties of asparagus are easy to cultivate?

1. Varieties of asparagus

Asparagus is a perennial plant, which can be harvested continuously for more than ten years in one cultivation, so the quality of its varieties will affect the yield and quality of asparagus throughout its life cycle, and determine the success or failure of asparagus cultivation.

At present, the main varieties that are better cultivated are:

(1) American varieties

Apollo, Grande, Atlas, UC series (UC125, UC139, UC142, UC155), Mary Washington 500W, California 72, California 800,157California, Jersey series, etc.

(2) Dutch varieties

Franklin, Gilliam, Polem, THIELIM, GIJNLIM, Limpras 10, etc.

(3) Japanese varieties

Welcome (Welcome), Akselu, Xiuwei, Green Tower, etc.

(4) domestic varieties

"Lu asparagus No. 1", "asparagus Prince F1", J2-2, WF-8, improved 88-5, Lufeng, Champion F1, Shuofeng F1, 2000-3, Weizi P-7 and other varieties.

2. Cultivation methods of asparagus.

(1) site selection

The seedbed requires fertile sandy loam with good drainage and good ventilation. Apply 5000 kg soil fertilizer, 20 kg urea, 5 kg superphosphate, 12.5 kg potassium nitride per mu, and disinfect the soil with appropriate amount of lime to reduce diseases and insect pests.

(2) seed treatment

Add 50g of carbendazim to 12.5kg of water and 5kg of seeds, pick them up after 24 hours, rinse clean, soak the seeds in clean water or 25030 ℃ lukewarm water for two days, change the water once or twice a day, then remove the seeds and sow them in white.

(3) sowing

Seeds can be sown in spring and autumn. Autumn sowing is better, from October to the first ten days of November, the temperature is about 25 ℃, and the plastic cover is thin after sowing. The seed amount per mu is 1.5-2.5 kg, the row spacing is 15-25 cm, the ditch depth is 2 cm, the seed spacing is 3-5 cm, and the fine soil is covered with about 2 cm after sowing. Cover the middle of the border with wet grass and often water the bed to keep the soil wet before emergence. When the seedling height is 1-2 cm, the cover grass can be removed, and the seedlings can be completed 20 days later, that is, the first fertilizer can be applied, and then once a month, 4 kg of urea and 2.5 kg of potassium chloride each time.

(4) Field management

Asparagus likes to be wet and afraid of waterlogging. If the humidity is too high, it will cause root rot. If the humidity is too low, the dry plants will grow poorly. Therefore, watering should be controlled.

In addition, it is necessary to topdressing by stages. When the first batch of young stems germinated in early spring, compound fertilizer 4~5kg/667m2, plant ash 50~60kg/667m2, combined with ploughing and trenching were applied. After that, a batch of tender stems were drawn every 30-40 days, fertilized accordingly, and urea 5~6kg/667m2 was applied.

Generally speaking, asparagus can be harvested for more than 12 years at a time. Usually, asparagus can be harvested 12 months after planting. In the first few years after planting, asparagus can be harvested at a rate of 500ml and 800kg. The market is good, so it is a very convenient planting project.
