As a kind of fruit with rich nutrition, unique flavor and moderate sugar acidity, strawberry has a good mass base and market prospect, and it is the first choice of health-preserving fruit in winter and spring. So what is the method of growing strawberries in the open air? Which varieties are better?

Which varieties of open-air strawberries are better to choose?

The planting varieties are mainly European and American varieties "Sweet Charlie", "Monterey", "Aigma", "Dai Rui No. 1" and Japanese varieties "Zhang Ji" and "Beauty". However, when selecting varieties, we must consider the climate, the composition of the soil and the type of facilities.

In the selection of strawberry varieties, berry growers should choose the excellent strawberry varieties with strong disease resistance, high yield per mu, good taste, good fruit shape, bright color and high sweetness. In addition, we should also consider the local climate characteristics and greenhouse types, select strawberry varieties with drought tolerance, moisture tolerance, shallow dormancy, good fruit uniformity and resistance to storage and transportation.

What is the method of growing strawberries in the open air?

1. Parcel selection

Strawberries are not too strict on soil and can often be grown on ordinary land. However, strawberries have the characteristics of low drought tolerance and waterlogging tolerance, so they are often planted in relatively high terrain, and to ensure that the ground is flat, the soil on the ground is more complete, and it is also planted in the land with sufficient light. It should be planted in soil with certain acidity to ensure that the pH value of the soil is between 6.0 and 7.0.

2. Planting time

Strawberries are usually planted from July to August. Before planting, some melons, legumes and wheat should be planted properly, and make sure that strawberries are planted separately and not mixed with other crops. When planting strawberries, weeds must be cleared in advance and more fertilizer must be applied.

3. Strawberry seedling planting

Strawberry seedlings are often cultivated in the land where the seedlings are cultivated, or in strawberry orchards. When selecting seedlings, we should ensure that they are of appropriate size, good production environment, and free from diseases and insect pests. In the process of digging seedlings, an appropriate amount of soil should be carried and planted in time, which can fundamentally improve the survival rate of strawberry seedlings. It is necessary to control the planting time of strawberries to prevent the planting temperature from being too high and the problem of drought of strawberry seedlings. And water irrigation should be carried out in time to prevent strawberry seedlings from dying from drought. If strawberry seedlings are planted too late, the seedlings will not be able to resist the cold in winter.

The best way is to ensure that the growth point of strawberry seedlings is parallel to the ground, that the roots of strawberry seedlings have just gone deep into the soil, and that the tops of new buds of strawberry seedlings are exposed on the soil surface, and that strawberry seedlings should be irrigated in time after planting. Replenish water, so as to ensure the success rate of strawberry planting.

4. Field management

Specifically, we must ensure that the planting land is rich in nutrition, ensure the normal growth of strawberries, and do a good job of strawberry fertilization in time. Before entering winter, it is necessary to ensure adequate fertilization to meet the needs of strawberry planting in winter and prevent strawberry production from being reduced due to lack of nutrients. When most of the strawberry buds are formed, the application of quick-acting fertilizer can promote the absorption of fertilizer by strawberries, ensure the normal flowering and fruiting of strawberries and improve the successful fruit setting rate of strawberries. In the growth of strawberries, redundant and dry leaves should be removed in time, because aging leaves are not only unable to carry out normal photosynthesis, but also easy to consume nutrients, causing the occurrence of diseases and insect pests and affecting the normal growth of strawberries.

Warm reminder: the actual growth time of strawberries is 1-2 months. After the strawberries are ripe, they should be picked every 2 days or so, preferably in the morning. You can't pick strawberries when the weather is hot, or it will easily cause strawberries to rot.
