Yulongcao is a perennial herb of Liliaceae with well-developed root system, rapid growth and division, and the planted ground can quickly grow into a dense felt-like turf, which can conserve soil and water and beautify hillsides and walls. So, how should Yulong grass be planted?

First, how to plant Yulongcao?

1. Soil: Yulongcao does not have high requirements for soil, but grows better in sandy loam with good drainage; it can be planted either in pots or on the ground, and the planting method is simple, without fine management, as long as the environment is suitable, it can quickly grow into a dense felt turf.

2. Temperature: Yulongcao is heat-resistant and cold-resistant, and the optimum growth temperature is 25-30 ℃. In winter,-3 ℃-0 ℃ can pass the winter safely, and it can keep evergreen in the open field in the south, but in the north, the lowest temperature should not be lower than 1 ℃, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow.

3. Light: Yulong grass likes light and has strong negative tolerance. It can grow normally under strong light and shade rate of 70% and 90%, but too weak light can easily make leaves grow and affect tillers. Potted plants should be placed in shade sheds and planted in shady places and under trees.

4. Watering: Yulong grass is not resistant to drought and is more resistant to water and moisture. Potted plants should often keep the soil moist and spray water frequently in dry season. Land planting should be watered thoroughly and often irrigated to keep the soil moist. Watering should not be too much, otherwise the underground stems and fleshy roots will rot, and watering should be controlled in winter.

5. Fertilization: Yulong grass grows rapidly. In addition to applying sufficient basic fertilizer when planting, topdressing should also be applied during the growing period. Fertilizer should be applied twice before and after June every year. Thin liquid fertilizer or compound fertilizer can be selected, and there is no need to topdressing in other seasons.

Second, what is the difference between Yulongcao and Ophiopogon?

The first difference is that the species are different: both are Liliaceae and perennial evergreen herbs, but Yulong grass is a dwarf grass species and Ophiopogon japonicus is an Ophiopogon species.

Second, the difference between stems and leaves: Yulong grass almost stemless, about 10 cm high, leaves clustered, narrowly linear, leaf base sharp, leaf tip obtuse, dark green; Ophiopogon japonicus root stem slender, plant height 14-30 cm, leaves tufted, narrowly linear, apex pointed, base green-white and slightly enlarged.

Third, the flowers and fruits are different: Yulong grass has 10 flowers per bud, the flower color is lilac to white, the capsule diameter is about 0.5 cm, and the seeds are dark blue; Ophiopogon japonicus has 3 flowers per bract, the flower color is lilac, occasionally white, berries are globose, blue-black, and the seeds are globose, turquoise or yellowish brown.

Difference 4, different uses: Yulong grass is an excellent ground cover material, which can beautify hillsides and walls, and is more resistant to trampling than general turf; Ophiopogon japonicus is an important medicinal material and greening plant, and its root tuber can be used as medicine, it has the effect of nourishing Ming and Qing heat, moistening lungs and relieving cough, but it is not as trampled-resistant as Yulong grass.

The above is the introduction of the planting method of Yulong grass and the difference between it and Ophiopogon grass. I hope it will be useful to you.
