Planting time

The planting time of ginger is determined by the temperature. In Hunan, Wuhan and other places, ginger is usually planted in April and May every year, while in the river valleys of northwest and southwest of China, it is usually sown in March. The most suitable temperature for ginger growth is about 25 to 30 degrees, and the lowest temperature can not be lower than 15 degrees, so you can determine the planting time according to the change of temperature in your area.

Planting method

1. Site selection and seed selection

It can be said that ginger is sensitive to water, and in general, its ability to resist drought and waterlogging is not good, so when we select land, we try to choose sandy soil with strong permeability, and at the same time, we also need to be close to water sources. this is also convenient for irrigation and drainage. As for the selection of ginger is to choose healthy, strong tubers and better color ginger, and to carefully observe whether the ginger buds have vitality, there is no state of wilting.

2. Sowing and density

When sowing, soak the ginger in the medicine for more than ten minutes, then mix it with sand, put it in a small space and seal it with plastic film. Usually, the seeds can be sowed after five days. When sowing, sow seeds at an interval of 30 cm for each plant and 40 cm for each row, and then try to put the germinated side up in such a row, and then cover it with a thin layer of soil. finally, cover it with a layer of straw.

3. Base fertilizer and topdressing

Must apply sufficient base fertilizer after planting, generally need an average of 3000 kg of organic fertilizer per mu, plus 30 kg of potash fertilizer to assist. The first fertilization is when ginger seedlings are 25 centimeters high, they can be irrigated with feces and water in rural areas, or sprayed with 20 kilograms of urea and water. When the autumn is approaching, that is, in early September, the second fertilization will be carried out. This time, the main purpose is to make the tubers grow, so we mainly apply compound fertilizer and potash fertilizer, and the amount of fertilizer used is 45 kg and 30 kg respectively. The last fertilization was when the tuber grew slightly to the size of three thumbs, that is, a month after the second fertilization, the type of fertilization was the same as that of the second, but the dosage was halved.

4. Pest control

The main diseases that harm the growth and yield of ginger are rot and spot disease. Rot usually lasts in summer in July and August or even until early September. Plants found to be sick should be pulled out in time, and the soil next to the plant should be dug up to avoid bacterial infection, then sprinkle a layer of lime, and then fill the ground with soil. The control method of spot disease is to spray 50% chlorothalonil 800 times, once every 7 to 10 days. The main pests affecting the quality are ginger borer and ginger maggots. We generally use trichlorfon or phoxim for foliar spraying control.
