The position of Shanxi Province in China:

Shanxi is an inland province, located on the east bank of the middle reaches of the Yellow River and on the Loess Plateau to the west of the North China Plain. The province is surrounded by mountains and water, which is distinct from the natural boundary of the neighboring provinces (regions). To the east and south, the Taihang Mountains are adjacent to Hebei and Henan provinces; to the west and south, the Yellow River is opposite to Qin and Henan; to the north, the Great Wall is bounded by Inner Mongolia. The total area of the territory is 156000 square kilometers, accounting for 1.6% of the total area of the country. The outline of the territory is a parallelogram oblique from northeast to southwest, with a long distance between north and south, with a length of about 682 km: the southernmost end is in the south of Nanzhang Village, Ruicheng County, with latitude 34 °34 'north; the northernmost end is in the north of Yuantou Village, Tianzhen County, latitude 40 °44' north. The distance between east and west is short, about 385 km wide: the easternmost end is in the east of Nankeng Village, Guangling County, longitude 114 °33; the westernmost end is in the west of Wangcun, mayor of Yongji, longitude 110 °14 'east.

Climate:

Shanxi is located in the inland of the middle latitudes of the east coast of the mainland, although it is only 300-500 kilometers east from the coast, but due to the blocking of the eastern mountains of the province, the climate is weakly affected by the ocean, and belongs to the temperate continental monsoon climate. The north is relatively cold due to the attack of the cold air mass in winter in Inner Mongolia; the south is moistened by the warm and humid air mass in summer from the Henan Huang-Huai-Hai Plain and the Northern Henan Plain, which is relatively mild; the climate difference between the north and the south is obvious. The climatic characteristics are: long winter, cold and dry; summer long in the south and short in the north, concentrated in Rain Water; changeable climate in spring with more wind and sand; short autumn and mild weather. The whole territory is full of sunshine and rich in heat resources; there are more disastrous weather, "nine droughts in ten years"; and there is a large temperature difference between day and night.
