Soilless cultivation technique refers to the cultivation method in which the substrate is used instead of natural soil or only when raising seedlings and irrigated with nutrient solution after planting. This technology can artificially create a good rhizosphere environment to replace the soil environment, and has the advantages of water-saving, fertilizer-saving, high-yield, clean, no pollution, labor-saving, easy management, avoiding continuous cropping obstacles and so on.

Because of getting rid of the limitation of soil cultivation, soilless cultivation is widely used in vegetable cultivation, flower cultivation, medicinal plant cultivation, fruit tree cultivation, soilless seedling cultivation and so on. Soilless cultivation can be developed on the roof balcony of landless cities, and soilless cultivation of vegetables can be developed on a large area on desert islands, sandy beaches and unsuitable sand, stone and saline land.
