Orchid is a kind of plant that is difficult to raise. If you want to grow to blossom, there are very high requirements for soil, watering, fertilization, temperature, light and so on. So how to grow potted orchids? Please see below for details.

I. the choice of soil

Orchid soil should be based on humus soil, can use rotten leaf soil or mountain forest humus soil. The humus soil of origin for orchids, also known as orchid mud, can be purchased directly from the flower market, or you can choose to deploy it. Rotten leaf soil, compost soil and river sand are generally used in the proportion of 6:3:1. The prepared soil is slightly acidic.

Second, watering

The watering needs of different varieties of orchids are slightly different, which should be determined according to the local environment and climate. Orchid watering needs to be wet but not moist, dry but not dry, neither too much nor too little. The temperature is relatively low in winter, most orchids are dormant and less water is needed. In summer, high temperature is also the peak growth period of orchids, watering an average of one or two times a day, be careful not to stick to the leaves, so as to avoid black spots on the leaves. Summer also needs to sprinkle water around the flowerpot to increase growth and development. The best water for watering orchids is Rain Water or snow water. Tap water should be kept for two to three days before use.

Third, temperature

The most suitable temperature for orchid growth is 16 to 24 degrees. Maintain good ventilation in winter, keep the temperature at about 10 degrees, and no more than 30 degrees in summer. Orchids will freeze to death if the temperature is too low, and burn if the temperature is too high in summer. If the temperature is not suitable, orchids will die easily.

Fourth, lighting

Orchids prefer shade and are afraid of direct sunlight. They have to shade orchids in spring, summer and autumn. Family potted orchids should control the light and put them under the balcony, windowsill or eaves with bamboo curtains. Orchids are shaded between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., and receive scattered sunlight in the morning and evening. In winter, put orchids indoors where scattered light can be accepted to avoid direct sunlight.

5. Fertilization

There are two main ways to fertilize orchids, one is to apply base fertilizer in the cultivated soil, and the other is to topdressing during the growing period. Topdressing mainly uses liquid fertilizer and foliar fertilizer, the concentration is a little lighter than other flowers, and the culture soil needs to be changed once a year. In the orchid growing season, it is necessary to wet about 15% of the fully mature thin cake fertilizer water, or 0.1% urea fertilizer water plus 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate fertilizer water, once every 15 to 20 days. Before flowering, 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate or plant ash water was sprayed on the leaf surface for 2 times. Orchids should not be fertilized with immature fertilizer, otherwise there will be rotten roots.

Orchid is a very delicate flower, and it takes a lot of thought to maintain it in daily life. If you are a novice, you should exchange and learn more when raising orchids. Only in this way can you raise beautiful and generous orchids.
