How to Plant Cherry Trees

The first way to plant cherry trees is to buy cherry saplings, which can be purchased either on the flower seedling market or online. After buying the saplings, choose the right time to plant, and the planting soil should be fertile and moist. After planting, pay attention to watering and fertilizing on time, and spray drugs for the prevention and treatment of diseases and insect pests.

1. Purchase

You can buy cherry saplings directly from the flower seedling market, or you can buy them by phone through online contact. We should pay attention to whether the roots of the cherry seedlings purchased are developed and whether the branches and leaves are luxuriant.

2. Planting

It is best to plant cherry seedlings in early spring, before and after Ching Ming Festival, or in late spring and early summer. The planting soil should be fertile and moist, not too dry or too flooded.

3. Watering

Cherry trees have a strong tolerance to drought. For most of the year, unless the weather is unusually hot or windy, they do not normally need to be watered, but once they enter the fruiting period, they should pay close attention to the changes in soil moisture. Sufficient water is needed during maturity. In the non-fruiting period, when the soil begins to dry at a depth of 5 to 10 cm from the ground, slowly and deeply water the cherry trees with hoses or drip irrigation as soon as possible, wrap drip lines around the trees with thick organic mulch to maintain soil moisture, and irrigate the cherry trees in winter and when the weather is particularly dry and windy.

4. Fertilization

Fertilizer can provide the nutrients needed for the growth of cherry trees, which in turn promotes the cherry trees to produce the healthiest and fullest fruits. Fertilization in early spring before the bursting of cherry buds can support the new growth of cherry trees in spring. We can also collect soil samples to a professional laboratory to test and analyze the soil composition, so that we can more accurately determine the type and quantity of fertilizers and nutrients that should be added to the soil. You can also apply 1 pound of nitrogen to the diameter of the trunk per inch, or spread a thin layer of compost on the drip line around the tree. Keep in mind that a lack of fertilizer is better than overfertilization, which can lead to fragile branches, too many leaves and less blossom and fruit.

5. Diseases and insect pests

A variety of pests can attack cherry trees, including aphids, peach borers, green fruit flies and common fruit flies. In humid seasons, humid climates can provide opportunities for the growth and reproduction of fungi, viruses and bacteria, leading to diseases such as Fusarium wilt, leaf curl and brown rot in cherry trees.
