To grow macadamia nuts, you need to choose suitable land, and hills or flat land below 1200 meters above sea level are the most suitable. Then select high-quality varieties to arrange planting, planting to avoid drought, rainy and hot seasons. Daily management is carried out according to different growth stages of macadamia nuts, and keep in mind that there should be no shortage of water.

Planting techniques of macadamia nuts

1. Select the place

Macadamia nut is a tropical and subtropical high-grade cash crop with strong adaptability. It is suitable for planting in hills or flatlands below 1200 meters above sea level. It requires that the maximum temperature in summer is not more than 35 ℃, the maximum temperature in winter is not less than 15 ℃, the lowest temperature is not less than 0 ℃, there is no frost or occasional light frost all the year round, the soil layer is deep, rich in organic matter, the pH value is 5.0 to 6.0, good drainage, and irrigation conditions are available when water is scarce in dry season.

2. Seed selection

Excellent varieties are characterized by exuberant plant growth, wind resistance, drought tolerance, high yield, high quality, symmetrical crown, erect and stout branches. In the peak period, the average plant yield is more than 25 kg to 50 kg, the kernel size is medium, the seed rate is 30% to 50%, and the first-class kernel accounts for about 98%.

3. Colonization

Planting should avoid dry, rainy and high temperature seasons and be planted in the early or late rainy season to facilitate plant growth. The planting density varies with soil conditions and variety types. Most macadamia nuts have a high degree of self-sterility, so planting varieties should be crossed (different varieties should be interlaced and cross-planted), and at least two varieties should be matched in a piece of land.

4. Management of young trees

After planting, the seedlings should be watered frequently to keep the soil moist; after 2 months, fertilization should be carried out according to the growth of the seedlings, and the principle is to apply water and fertilizer frequently.

5. Put into production tree management

Macadamia nuts entered the production period in 4-5 years, and the tree consumption was large, so the green pressing was carried out every year combined with winter garden cleaning, and 20-30kg, phosphate fertilizer 0.5kg, lime 0.5kg were applied to each plant, and compound fertilizer was applied to each plant in May. With the increase of tree age, the amount of fertilizer increased.
