From January to June 2015, China's exports of traditional Chinese medicine and prepared pieces of traditional Chinese medicine totaled US $550 million, down 7.5 per cent from the same period last year. The export volume was 94000 tons, up 3.27% from the same period last year, and the average export price was 5.8USD / kg, down 10.4% from the same period last year. The decline in export prices is the main reason for the slowdown in the growth of traditional Chinese medicine and prepared slices. The main varieties of traditional Chinese medicine and pieces of traditional Chinese medicine for export are Chinese wolfberry, ginseng, Codonopsis pilosula and other bulk varieties. However, the export situation of these varieties is basically not optimistic, or volume increases and prices fall, or both volume and prices fall. Among the top 10 export varieties, the export volume fell by 8, and the decline was relatively large.

中药出口依然简单粗暴

For a long time, East Asia and ASEAN countries are the main export markets of traditional Chinese medicine and prepared slices in China, accounting for 82.64% of China's total exports of traditional Chinese medicinal materials and prepared slices, down 2.66% from 85.3% in 2013.

Hong Kong: in the first half of 2015, mainland exports of traditional Chinese medicine and prepared slices to Hong Kong were US $185 million, down 18.14% from the same period last year. Hong Kong's entrepot trade advantage declined. At present, the main products of traditional Chinese medicine exported from the mainland to Hong Kong are Notoginseng, Codonopsis, Eucommia ulmoides, Atractylodes macrocephala, Chrysanthemum, Ligusticum chuanxiong, Radix Paeoniae Alba, Panax ginseng and Radix Rehmanniae. Hong Kong has always been the main import market of Cordyceps sinensis in the mainland. with the continuous rise in the price of Cordyceps sinensis in the past few years, the export volume of Cordyceps sinensis began to decline year by year, although the market price of Cordyceps sinensis this year was larger than that of previous years. However, due to the overall economic situation is not good, exports are still in a downward trend.

Japan: in the first half of 2015, the export value of Chinese herbal medicines and slices to Japan was 92.1847 million US dollars, down 27.20% from the same period last year. The decline in Japanese market export volume, in addition to some force majeure factors, is also related to the continuous improvement of Japan's requirements for the quality of raw materials of Chinese medicinal materials. In recent years, the domestic resources of wild and high-quality medicinal materials are decreasing day by day, and some Japanese enterprises are in order to ensure a stable supply of goods. It has been suitable for growing some Chinese herbs in Vietnam, South America and other regions. At present, China's exports to Japan are mainly wild licorice, high-quality Pinellia ternata, Poria cocos, Panax notoginseng, Radix Paeoniae Alba and ginseng.

In addition, markets such as Taiwan, Malaysia, the United States and the Netherlands still maintain growth of more than 20%. The increase in Taiwan is of particular concern. From January to June, exports of traditional Chinese medicine to Taiwan were 5869 tons, an increase of 78.3 percent over the same period last year, and exports totaled US $31.05 million, an increase of 34.5 percent over the same period last year. With the implementation of the facilitation measures of traditional Chinese medicine trade between the two sides of the strait, the trade volume of traditional Chinese medicine between the mainland and Taiwan will increase rapidly.

The export volume of traditional Chinese medicine increased in the first half of 2015, but it was basically raw medicine and rough products. During the long National Day holiday this year, after people bought toilet seats last year, they wantonly bought regular medicines, including many popular cosmetics that also contain Chinese herbal ingredients. Thus it can be seen that the development of traditional Chinese medicine products and the establishment of trust still have a long way to go.
