Wild gynostemma pentaphyllum is mainly distributed in Hunan and Shengtang Mountain, Jinxiu County, Guangxi. Among them, the quality of gynostemma pentaphyllum from Qinba Mountain area of Shaanxi Province is the highest, and its saponins content is as high as 12.2%. Therefore, Qinba Mountain area is recognized as the global gold producing area of gynostemma pentaphyllum.
Gynostemma pentaphyllum is a valuable traditional Chinese medicine, which is called "southern ginseng" and "immortal herb". Its main active ingredients are gynostemma pentaphyllum saponins, gynostemma pentaphyllum glycosides (polysaccharides), water-soluble amino acids, flavonoids, vitamins, trace elements, minerals and so on.
