To plant cowpea, we should first choose the soil with high fertility, deep soil layer, good air permeability and high content of organic matter, remove weeds, insect sources and bacteria sources, apply base fertilizer, and prepare the soil for bed. Then select good varieties to sow, use hole sowing, three or four grains per hole, pour water before sowing, and cover soil 2cm after sowing. After that, we can do a good job in the management of fertilization, watering, erection, mid-ploughing and weeding.

1. Site selection: the soil with high soil fertility, deep soil layer, good air permeability and high content of organic matter should be selected. Remove the rotten leaves and weeds of the previous stubble in the field, and remove the sources of insects and bacteria in the soil. Ploughing the land deeply, 15-25cm deep, applying sufficient basic fertilizer, applying mature organic fertilizer 2500kg per mu, vegetable special compound fertilizer 30-50kg, land preparation, border width about 80cm, ditch width about 40cm, ditch depth 25-30cm.

2. Sowing: according to the local climatic conditions, production season, market requirements and production habits, the varieties with high yield, disease resistance, good quality, good appearance of pods, neat length and good commercial quality should be selected, and the purity of varieties should be ensured. Generally sowing from early April to early August, using hole sowing, three or four grains per hole, two rows per row, about 25cm from the hole (plant). Pour water before sowing and cover soil with 2cm after sowing.

3. Management: remove weak seedlings and inferior seedlings after complete seedlings, leaving 2 seedlings in each hole. Seedlings to have five or six leaves should be set up to draw vines, the use of "human" word frame, about 2m high. Watering thin farm manure once or twice according to the growth condition from 10 days after emergence to the trailing period, such as human feces and urine, etc.; watering the first flower and beginning to bear pods every 7 days or so, 3-5 times per harvest, should be combined with watering. It is necessary to plough and hoe weeds to control diseases and insect pests.
