Symptoms of peach leaf shrinking disease

The leaves that grow first in the lower part of the new shoot suffer more seriously, while the leaves that grow later are lighter. If the new shoots themselves are not damaged and the diseased leaves are withered, the adventitious buds on them can still pull out sound new leaves. The damaged shoots are grayish green or yellow, shorter and thicker than normal branches, with a cluster of diseased leaves, and severely damaged branches will die. Most of the flowers and young fruits fall off after they are damaged, so it is not easy to detect. Unshedding diseased fruit, uneven development, with massive protuberant spots, yellow to reddish brown, the fruit face is often cracked. This kind of abnormal fruit will soon fall off.

Inducement of leaf shrinking disease in peach trees

The temperature in the sprouting period of peach trees is low in spring, and peach leaf shrinkage disease often occurs seriously. In general, peach trees are most susceptible to the disease when the temperature is between 10 and 16 ℃, but less when the temperature is above 21 ℃. This is mainly due to the low temperature, slow growth of young peach leaves, and the host tissue is not easy to mature, which is conducive to the invasion of bacteria. On the contrary, if the temperature is high and the peach leaves grow faster, the chance of contracting the disease will be reduced. In addition, the areas with high humidity are conducive to the occurrence of the disease. Peach leaf shrinking disease occurs seriously in low temperature and rainy years or areas in early spring (peach sprouting and leaf spreading period). If the early spring is warm and dry, the disease is mild. In terms of varieties, the incidence of early-maturing peach was more serious than that of late-ripening peach.
