Planting with orange seeds takes 3-5 or even 5-8 years to bear fruit. Therefore, it is generally planted with grafted orange seedlings, which can shorten the fruiting time and improve the quality of oranges. The following is to introduce the method of orange tree grafting, friends in need can learn about it.

How are orange trees grafted?

1. Grafted variety

Grafting is generally the selection of similar plants, so the common rootstocks of orange grafting are trifoliate orange, citrus, red orange, sour orange, orange, citrus orange, sour pomelo, mandarin orange, citrus orange, red orange, mandarin orange and so on. Of course, different rootstocks are applicable to different varieties of oranges. For example, sour oranges are suitable for sweet oranges, banana oranges and mandarins. We have to choose them according to different needs.

two。 Grafting time

It takes a long time for orange trees to be grafted. Generally, they can be grafted in spring, summer and autumn except winter. But autumn is the best time for grafting, and its survival rate is also the highest.

3. Grafting method

When grafting, first deal with the rootstock, and then cut the bud. Using T-shaped bud grafting, first cut the T-shaped opening at 3-5 cm above the ground of the rootstock, the depth is suitable to see the xylem and can peel off the bark of the rootstock, and then carefully peel off the bark of the rootstock with the tip of the knife to quickly embed the bud with the petiole. After that, the soil is 10 centimeters high. After 10-15 days, dig up the soil and check the survival. If the bud is fresh light green and the petiole falls at a touch, it means that it has survived, otherwise it has not survived, it should be reconnected behind the rootstock.

4. Post-grafting management

If it is grafting in autumn, it needs to be cut off at 18-20 cm above the budding point after the spring of the second year to untie the binding material. Pruning 3 or 4 times in summer to cut off the branches from the rootstock. When the new branch grows to 8cm and 10cm, tie it to the living pile near the base; when it reaches 20cm to 25cm, tie it to the upper end again. Until the Lignification is grafted and the living piles are cut off, the seedlings can continue to be cultivated in the field.

After that, it is similar to the general process of orange trees, such as pruning and shaping, watering and fertilizing, and so on.
