Grapes are delicate and can easily freeze to death in the cold weather in the north if they are not well managed. Let's take a look at the grape planting techniques in the north. Light grapes are fond of light planting.

Grapes are a common fruit, and many people grow grapes in their gardens. Grapes are more delicate and can easily freeze to death in the cold weather of the north if not managed well. Let's take a look at northern grape growing techniques.

I. Light

Grape is a light-loving plant, which requires higher light. The length of light hours has great influence on grape growth, yield and quality. When the light is insufficient, the new shoots grow thin and weak, the leaves are thin, the leaves are pale, the ear is small, the flowers and fruits drop more, the yield is low, the quality is poor, and the winter bud differentiation is poor. Therefore, when planting grapes, choose a place with good light and pay attention to improving the wind and light conditions of the frame surface.

II. Soil

Grape to the soil adaptability is strong, in addition to swamp and heavy saline soil is not suitable for growth, the rest of the types of soil can be cultivated, and fertile sandy loam is the most suitable. Different soils have different effects on grape growth, development and quality. In unsuitable areas, soil improvement and planting can be carried out through agricultural engineering and cultivation techniques.

III. Moisture

In early spring germination, shoot growth period, young fruit expansion period are required to have sufficient water supply, generally every 7-10 days irrigation once, so that the soil moisture content of about 70% is appropriate. It is better that the soil moisture content reaches about 60% before and after the berry ripening stage. However, excessive rainfall should pay attention to timely drainage, so as not to affect the quality of berries due to excessive humidity, but also prone to disease. If there is too little rain, water should be irrigated once every 10 days or so, otherwise it is easy to crack fruit after a long drought and rain, resulting in economic losses.

IV. Temperature

Grape groups in various stages of growth on the temperature requirements are different, according to the actual local conditions and growth cycle, timely adjustment of temperature. For example, the effective accumulated temperature of early-maturing variety Saba Pearl is 2100℃, that of middle-maturing variety Vineyard Queen is 2500℃, and that of late-maturing variety Longan is 3300℃.

V. Other management

Attention must also be paid to avoiding and protecting against disastrous weather, such as prolonged drought, floods, severe frost, strong winds, hail, etc. All of these can cause significant losses to grape production. And timely pruning branches and leaves, and prevent white rot, downy mildew, two-star leafhopper, grape transparent wing moth, grape red spider and other pests.

When planting grapes in the north, special attention should be paid to the temperature, so as not to freeze and affect the normal growth of grapes. When grapes are harvested, they should also be preserved to avoid unnecessary damage to the grapes.
