Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Pomegranate trees can only be grafted with pomegranate trees. Because of the strong affinity of families and genera of the same species, the survival rate is high. However, if you want to have a high survival rate, you should also pay attention to the method of grafting and the management in the later stage. After grafting, there should be more ventilation and no water on the wound. The newly sprouting branches are relatively weak.

Pomegranates can only be grafted with pomegranate trees. Because the affinity of the same family is strong, the survival rate is high. However, if you want to have a high survival rate, you should pay attention to the grafting method and later management. After grafting, you should ventilate more, and the wound should not be wet. The newly sprouted branches are weak, so support should be set up to avoid being blown off by the wind.

How to manage pomegranate trees after grafting

1. Remove sprouts.

2. Check the survival and supplement the connection. 15 days after grafting check survival, when all scions on the interface are wrinkled, black, dry shrinkage, it means that scion is dead, need to be re-grafted.

3. Set up support. The new branches grown after survival are easy to be blown off by wind because they have not yet healed firmly. Therefore, when the new shoots are 15 to 20 cm long, some sticks are tied to the trees for support (commonly known as tied backs).

4. Summer pruning. When the new shoots are 0~60 cm, the new shoots cultivated as backbone branches (main lateral branches) are gently pulled according to the shaping requirements, tied to the branches, and adjusted to the proper angle. The other branches are bent, flattened, smoothed, mixed and pressed, etc., and the branches are changed from upright growth to inclined, horizontal or drooping state, so as not to affect the growth of main branches, but also to form more mixed buds and blossom.
