Therefore, at present, the domestic corn sold on the market is not genetically modified corn and can be bought and eaten at ease.

II. The situation of genetically modified Maize abroad

In terms of planting scale, genetically modified corn is the second largest genetically modified crop in the world after soybean. Since genetically modified corn was first commercially planted in the United States in 1996, its acreage has grown rapidly, increasing 300 times in 19 years, and its proportion in genetically modified crops has also increased by 20%.

From the point of view of product characters, transgenic corn includes herbicide-resistant corn, insect-resistant corn and compound double-resistant transgenic corn. As of 2014, the global planting area of genetically modified corn was 54.3 million square hectares, accounting for 30 per cent of the total corn planting area. Among them, the planting area of herbicide-tolerant transgenic corn is about 16.3 million square hectares. All the genetically modified corn currently planted in the five EU countries are insect-resistant, with a planting area of 116870 square hectares. Among them, Spain has the largest planting area, about 107749 square hectares.

From a national point of view, ISAAA2015's annual GM report shows that a total of 28 countries around the world have approved the commercial cultivation of 29 GM crops. Among them, the number of countries growing genetically modified corn has risen to 17. The United States is the largest grower of genetically modified corn in the world, with an area of 35.05 million square hectares in 2016, accounting for 92 percent of the total sown area of corn in the United States. Among them, 76% are compound genetically modified corn. In 2003, the Philippines introduced genetically modified insect-resistant corn, becoming the first country in Asia to approve the planting of genetically modified staple grains. In 2014, GM corn was planted in the Philippines with an area of 831000 square hectares, accounting for more than 25 per cent of the country's corn. In 2015, Vietnam joined the ranks of GM crops for the first time, planting hybrid GM insect-resistant / herbicide-resistant corn. By 2020, the global planting area of genetically modified corn is expected to account for 30% of the total crop acreage.

At present, there is almost no genetically modified corn in the domestic market, the major varieties of corn seen in the market can rest assured to buy and eat, will not be genetically modified food.
