In the scorching summer, besides watermelon, longan is also in season. And this year longan brought benefits, let its cultivation also increased. The following is an introduction to its cultivation techniques for your reference.

Cultivation techniques of longan

1. Land selection and preparation

Although longan has certain drought resistance, it is still necessary to choose a place close to water source when planting. The soil is preferably red soil, sandy soil and yellow soil. The soil layer is deep and the ability to keep water and fertilizer is strong, which is very beneficial to the healthy growth and development of longan. In hilly mountains, the terrain should be more gentle comprehensive deep ploughing or building terraces, according to the row spacing dug pits, and apply sufficient fertilizer.

2. colonization

Seedling selection and planting is a very important link. Only by selecting seedlings with developed roots, strong plants, dark green leaves and no diseases and insect pests can we ensure that the seedlings are prosperous and improve the survival rate and seedling rate.

Longan can be planted in all seasons except winter. When transplanting, pay attention to the full contact between seedling roots and soil, and use sufficient root water. After planting, keep the soil moist to ensure the survival of seedlings. It is best to plant on rainy days.

3. field management

Fertilization: after young trees are planted, the first topdressing can be carried out after the growth of new shoots is full, and the principle of "thin fertilizer and frequent application" should be adhered to, and fertilization should be carried out 4 times a year; when young longan trees are fertilized, they should be in the outer periphery of the crown (called drip line here). Open ditch, semi-ring ditch, or side ditch (about 5~10 cm deep), and soil should be covered after fertilization.

Pruning: Longan trees are cultivated to have a natural round-headed crown. Generally, within 2-3 years after planting, the trunk is 0.5-1 m, and after 3-4 main branches are evenly distributed, they are pruned year by year to increase the number of branches, and finally form a round-headed crown.

Flower thinning and fruit thinning: special attention should be paid to flower thinning and fruit thinning in the years when longan blossoms are frequent. The time for thinning and breaking flowers and ears should be from around Qingming to grain rain, and should not exceed summer (flowering) at the latest.

In addition, in the process of cultivation, it is necessary to control downy mildew, blight, litchi bug, white moth wax cicada, longan fly moth and other diseases and insect pests to ensure their normal growth.
