Everything in the world needs to live and multiply. Compared with animals, how do plants, which are usually much quieter, do this? So what are the ways for plants to reproduce?

What are the ways for plants to reproduce?

The methods of plant reproduction include separate propagation, striping propagation, cutting propagation and sexual reproduction. One of the most common is cutting propagation, cutting a part of plant vegetative organs, such as roots, stems, leaves, etc., under suitable conditions, insert into the matrix, make use of its meristematic function or regeneration ability to make it root or sprout and become a new plant.

1. Isolation and propagation

The reproductive method of separating the vegetative organs of plants into independent new individuals. This method is simple and the survival rate is high. The separation period varies with the species of medicinal plants and climate, and generally takes place in the dormancy period of plants in late autumn or early spring. According to the different parts of the mother plant, it can be divided into balls (such as saffron), pieces (such as yam, Bletilla striata, etc.), roots (such as Salvia miltiorrhiza, Aster, etc.), ramets (such as Amomum, grass, etc.).

2. Striping propagation

The branches or vines of the mother plant are buried in the soil, or wrapped with soil, moss, etc., so that it takes root, and then cut off from the mother plant to become an independent plant. The strip pressing methods include ordinary strip pressing method, wavy strip pressing method, earth pressing method, air pressing method and so on. Aristolochia, rose, Polygonum multiflorum, Vitex mandshurica, Forsythia suspensa and so on can be propagated by this method.

3. Sexual reproduction

Sexual reproduction is also called seed reproduction. The seedlings propagated by general seeds have strong adaptability to the environment and large reproduction coefficient at the same time. A seed is a living organism in a dormant period. Only good seeds can produce good offspring. There are many kinds of medicinal plants, and their seeds are different in shape, size, color, lifespan and germination characteristics.
