Okra, also known as coffee okra, originated in India, like warmth and fear of cold. If you want to plant okra well, you must first choose the right time to plant it. When is the better time to sow okra? How to plant it?

When will okra be sown

The temperature is higher in the south and can be sown in February-March, along the river and coastal areas in April, and the temperature in the north is lower and the sowing begins in May.

Second, how to plant okra

1. Okra can be either direct seeding or seedling transplanting. Soak the seeds for 12 hours before sowing, then put them under 25-30 ℃ to promote germination, wait for most of the seeds to whiten and sow. If direct seeding, sow 2-3 seeds per hole, and the amount of seeds used per mu is about 300-500 grams. It can also be planted with 2-3 true leaves of seedlings.

2. It is better to choose the soil with high content of organic matter and deep soil layer to plant it. Deep soil preparation before sowing, apply sufficient basic fertilizer, about 3000 kg per mu of rotten organic fertilizer, 15-20 kg of diammonium phosphate and 15 kg of potassium sulfate. The land will be made into a high bed 1.2 meters wide, with drainage ditches 20-30 centimeters between the borders. It should be noted that okra is a light-loving crop, cultivation should not be too dense, plant spacing of 40-50 cm.

3. Okra is a moisture-tolerant plant, the plant is tall and needs more water, so it should be watered once after emergence and setting seedlings; during flowering and fruit setting, the soil should be watered frequently to keep the soil moist, especially in high temperature weather, high fruit harvest period, large water demand and water supply; but when Rain Water is too much, it should be drained in time to avoid waterlogging.

4. More nitrogen fertilizer is needed in the early stage of growth, more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer is needed in the middle and later stage, and topdressing is needed many times in the growing period. It can be combined with watering to apply 15kg urea per mu in seedling setting, fruiting and full fruiting stage (phosphorus and potash fertilizer should be added together from the second topdressing) to promote high yield.

5. When the branches and leaves of the plant are too luxuriant, cut off the basal lateral branches and pick the old leaves properly. In the middle and later stage of growth, 1-2 leaves under the pod were retained after the tender pod was harvested, and the rest of the lower leaves were removed. Coring when the plant is as high as 1.2-1.5 meters.

6. The main diseases are virus diseases, and the main pests are cotton bollworm, aphids, thrips and so on. Virus diseases should be prevented mainly; cotton bollworm mainly harms fruits, which can be sprayed with 9080 or wolf toxin; aphids and thrips mainly harm pods, which can be sprayed with 1000 times of imidacloprid.

Okra can be planted in spring, summer and autumn, generally dominated by spring sowing. It is necessary to keep a good grasp of the temperature when growing okra.
