Guizi ginger, also known as ginger and Jerusalem artichoke, is edible, and the tuber is rich in starch and is an excellent succulent feed. The nutritional value of fresh stems and leaves as silage is higher than that of sunflower. So, how do you grow devil ginger?

First, select land for planting

Ginger likes loose and fertile sandy loam, so it is suitable to choose watery land or mountain area with flat potential, convenient drainage and irrigation, deep plough layer, good fertility, neutral or slightly alkaline soil below 2500m above sea level, and wheat, legume, corn or vegetable stubble for the previous crop. Avoid continuous cropping with Compositae or potato crops.

II. Soil preparation and fertilization

After autumn harvest, 70% of the soil was sprayed with 5000kg manure per mu, and 30% was concentrated in the ditch when sowing; in addition, potassium sulfate 15kg was applied, 30cm was ploughed deeply, and the bed was leveled for sowing after ploughing.

Third, selection of taro.

The green taro No. 2 ginger tuber without rot, disease and insect, weighing 30-50g per unit, should be selected as seed. Large tubers can be cut into pieces. After cutting into pieces, the seeds were soaked in potassium permanganate aqueous solution for disinfection.

Fourth, sowing time

The seeds are usually sown in spring. The suitable sowing time is from late March to early and middle April after soil thawing.

5. Sowing methods

After thawing in spring, 20 ~ 25g tubers were selected for sowing. Tuber seeds per mu were needed 50kg, row spacing 0.5 × 0.5m, sowing depth 10~20cm, and seedlings emerged about 30 days after sowing. Alpinia officinalis is sown in one year, and there are tubers left in the soil after harvest, but it can no longer be sown the following year, but in order to distribute the plants evenly, the seedlings should be thinned in the places where the plants are too dense, and the plants should be replanted in the places where the plants are missing.

Guizi ginger is highly resistant, drought-tolerant, pest-free and easy to grow. It is also used to make inulin and alcohol. It is a valuable industrial raw material.
