I. growth habits of sweet potato

The scientific name of sweet potato is sweet potato. Besides sweet potato, sweet potato has many other nicknames, such as sweet potato, Zhu potato, golden potato, sweet potato, red yam, jade pillow potato and so on.

Sweet potato likes temperature, is afraid of cold, and is not cold-tolerant. The suitable growth temperature is 22-30 ℃ and stops growing when the temperature is lower than 15 ℃.

Sweet potato likes light and is a short-day crop. In the process of plant growth, the crop which requires high light energy and is not shade-tolerant, the longer the growth period of light energy from the stem and leaf stage, the higher the photosynthetic efficiency, otherwise it will reduce the photosynthetic efficiency and affect the plant growth.

Sweet potato has strong drought tolerance, soil water holding capacity should be controlled at 60-70%, and suitable water conditions can meet the needs of different growth periods.

Sweet potato has good acid and alkali resistance and strong adaptability to soil environment. Because of its developed root system and strong fertilizer absorption capacity, the plots with deep soil layer, loose soil, good soil quality, strong irrigation and drainage capacity and pH value between 4.2 and 8.3 should be selected.

Second, how to grow potted sweet potatoes?

There are generally two methods of potted sweet potato: hydroponic culture and soil culture.

1. Hydroponics

First wash the sweet potato, and then put it in a vase with more than half a bottle of water for hydroponic culture. Half of the sweet potato is immersed in water and half is exposed to air. After a few days, the sweet potato can sprout and form a potted plant.

Generally 4-5 days sweet potato will sprout, later growth is better, but also pay attention to pruning, generally 1-2 weeks to change water.

2. Soil culture

Put the sweet potato horizontally in the soil, cover it with a thin layer of soil, germinate, remove the seedlings and transplant them into other planting containers.

It should be noted that after sweet potato sprouting, it can not be transplanted immediately. Generally, it is necessary to wait for the seedlings to grow to a certain extent and grow white roots before transplanting.

After successful transplanting, pour enough water into the flowerpot, put it in a cool, sunny place, wait for normal maintenance after a few days, often water the soil, keep the soil moist, and bask the sweet potato in the sun regularly.
