When will buckwheat mature?
The ripening time of buckwheat is usually from September to October in autumn. But because buckwheat is a crop that can be planted all the year round, the specific harvest time depends on the time of sowing.
Buckwheat is sown all the year round in China: spring sowing, summer sowing, autumn sowing and winter sowing, also known as spring buckwheat, summer buckwheat, autumn buckwheat and winter buckwheat. It takes about two and a half months from sowing to maturity. Spring sowing in dry farming areas and alpine mountains in northern China; summer sowing in winter wheat areas in the Yellow River basin; autumn sowing in central and southern China in the south of the Yangtze River and coastal areas; winter sowing in subtropics; spring or autumn sowing in southwest plateau areas. The specific suitable sowing date in each producing area should be based on the maturity (growth period) of the variety, the local frost-free period and the effective accumulated temperature of more than 10 ℃, so as to avoid the local high temperature (> 26 ℃) and ensure the ripening before frost. For example, the hilly area north of Yinshan Mountain in Inner Mongolia and Zhangjiakou Bashang in Hebei Province is a precocious spring buckwheat area in China. Sowing should not be too early, early sowing is vulnerable to late frost, late sowing is vulnerable to early frost, and the suitable sowing time is from late May to early June. For example, wheat and other crops in Longdong, Gansu, Weibei, Shaanxi, coastal areas of the Yellow River and central and southern Shanxi were harvested earlier, and buckwheat was sown in mid-July. Buckwheat was sown in low altitude areas of Aba Prefecture in July, and sown in high Mid-levels from mid-April to the end of June. Buckwheat in Yunnan and Guizhou are mainly planted at low elevations below 1700 meters and are usually sown in the first and middle of August. Buckwheat is winter buckwheat in Pingba area of southwestern Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong and Hainan, which is usually sown from late October to the first and middle of November. In the southwest alpine mountain area, the suitable sowing time of Tartary buckwheat is from mid-late April to early May.
