Although it is called fig, it is actually a flowering plant, with two varieties of evergreen and deciduous leaves, which are propagated by cutting, ramet and striping. But today, I would like to introduce to you the method of seed reproduction, which you can understand.

Propagation methods of fig seeds

1. Land selection and preparation

The quality of soil directly affects the growth of fig seedlings, so high-quality fields with loose and ventilated soil, rich in organic matter, flat topography and fast drainage should be selected. Sprinkle a sufficient amount of soil and miscellaneous fertilizer before planting, sprinkle 2.5-8 tons of cow manure and chicken manure per mu, plough once and rake once, so that the soil and nutrients are stirred evenly.

two。 Soak seeds and sow seeds

Soak the selected fig seeds in warm water for 1 day, take them out to dry and sow them in strips with a depth of no more than 4 cm. After planting, you can also lay plastic film or moisturizing materials such as straw to speed up the germination rate. After planting, you can cover the soil by hand or by machine, and irrigate it once after covering the soil.

3. Seedling planting

After emergence, reasonable watering and fertilization should be carried out according to the growth situation and weather, and attention should be paid to weeding and other work. The suitable planting period should be around Qingming Festival in North China, around Grain Rain in Northeast China, and transplanting in the south after defoliation in autumn, but the flowering and fruiting period should be avoided.

4. Field management

After transplanting, the figs should be shaped and pruned, and the main branches should be cultivated during the period of young trees. After entering the initial fruit stage, many groups of cultured branches should be grasped in order to promote the formation of a certain yield. In the full fruit period, we should pay attention to cultivate the backbone branches and renew the large and medium-sized branch groups to cut the weak branches.

Figs generally begin to ripen in mid-July and last until November, so growers can pick them in batches, suitable for sunny mornings or evenings.
