Muskmelon seedlings generally pinch the head when the main vine grows 4 to 5 true leaves, but keep a few side vines, leave flowers and melons after growing, and do not need pruning after sitting on melons.

How to grow muskmelon

1. Apply basic fertilizer for land preparation

The plots that are going to plant melons should be turned over ahead of time, and growers in the fields in the south should open good ditches and box ditches without stagnant water.

Muskmelon fertilizer is mainly base fertilizer, generally per mu (667m2) with urea 10kg 15kg, calcium superphosphate 40kg 50kg (or calcium magnesium phosphate 20kg), potassium sulfate 15kg 20kg, manganese sulfate 1kg 2kg, boron magnesium fertilizer 3kg 5kg, borax 1kg, zinc sulfate 1kg. If there is organic fertilizer such as livestock manure or compost, apply 2500 to 5000 kg per mu.

10 days before transplanting, spread farm manure evenly in the field, combined with soil preparation, turn 25cm to 30cm deep; after the above chemical fertilizer is mixed evenly, concentrate on ditch application, pay attention to the melon seedlings can not be planted directly on the fertilizer, to maintain a distance of 15cm to 20cm, otherwise fertilizer will burn roots. In addition, farm manure must be fully mature before it can be applied.

2. Sowing and raising seedlings

2.1 prepare nutritious soil

Use 50% of the rural ripe soil that has not planted melons and 50% of the fully mature farm manure. Note: nutritious soil and farm manure must be screened and some plant ash or sawdust must be added. Calcium superphosphate 1 kg, potassium sulfate 0.5 kg, 50% carbendazim 200 grams, 75% carbendazim 200 grams, 95% carbendazim 5 grams were mixed evenly in each cubic meter nutrient soil. Note: leave a small amount of mixed nutrient soil as cover soil.

2.2 seed treatment

Sun the seeds for half a day two days before soaking the seeds, then make a yarn net bag or cloth bag of about 5 times the size of the seeds, put the seeds into the bag and tie the opening, so that there is no need to loosen the opening in the later operation, which is very convenient. Then, soak the seeds in 1% potassium permanganate solution or methyl thiophanate 500x solution for 15 minutes, then rinse the seeds with clean water, and then soak the seeds in 25 ℃ warm water for 5 hours for 6 hours, pay attention to the soaking time should not be too long, otherwise it will affect the germination rate.

2.3 accelerating germination and sowing

After soaking, dry the surface layer of water, wrap the gauze bag with wet cotton cloth, put it in a plastic bag and put it in a place of 25 ℃. It can sprout in about 12 hours and 20 hours. When the seeds are white and the radicles are 1 mm long, they can be sown.
