Can apricot trees bear fruit without grafting

Apricot trees can not be grafted to bear fruit, but the fruit may not be as good as grafting in terms of quality and yield.

2. How to graft apricot trees

1. Select the branches of apricot trees with healthy growth, cut 5-8 cm as scions, retain 2-3 strong buds at the top, and cut the other end into a slope.

2. Insert the apricot scion into the cut of the rootstock and tie it tightly with a plastic bag.

3. Check the survival of grafted apricot seedlings. Check after about 10 days of grafting, if the buds are fresh, it shows that the growth is good. If it falls after touching the petiole, it means it has survived. The bud shrinks and blackens or the petiole touches but does not fall, indicating that it has not survived and needs to be reconnected in time.

4. Apricot trees should be watered before and after grafting to promote the flow of sap and improve the survival rate of grafting.

The fruit setting time of apricot trees should be based on the growth status of transplanted or grafted seedlings. Normally managed apricot trees can bear fruit in the second year and enter the full fruit period in the fourth year. After reaching the time limit of fruit production, apricots can be eaten from June to July every year.
